Rock & Roll Hotel Building For Sale

I was recently alerted by the keeper of the H Street Guide website that the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street) building is up for sale.  The business has a long lease, so this will not have any bearing on normal operations. The building has always had separate owners from the Hotel.

That's not good news -- I love the shows there. I wonder whether the large building on Bladensburg Rd (across from the new apartments) would be a good alternative for the Rock N' Roll Hotel. I hope they stay local.

John, try reading through the post again and see if you can discover any new information.

Got it, Anon, but instead of speculating on why the current owners are selling the building or what the new owners might ask for in terms of rent, I took the thought in a different but equally speculative direction. Try not being a smart-ass. :)

Guys, this is much to do about nothing. Rock and Roll doesn't own the building.....an 88 year old man does......but we have a lease that is around 14 YEARS long......we plan to be along around 25 years or more.....so no fretting please.........

Best, Joe

deal pertaining to discussing! An individual offer lots of valuable tips. Fiscal setting up is vital and everyone have to do the item - even begin young. Although, it's both equally crucial that you learn that you have solutions when individuals will need income

John great idea- I hope the RNRH can move there. I'd hate to see them close. So sad.

So Tom A.

Investing $1,000,000 on a business in your neighborhood isn't a joke. Providing hundreds of thousands of sales tax, real estate, licensing, unemployment tax and other revenue each year is a vital contribution to the community. Supplying 30-40 jobs to your neighbors so they can walk to work (and have nice incomes) is pretty significant. Creating a homegrown, uniquely DC establishment is pretty special. Can you say you have contributed as much to our area? Blog away my friend, it must take a lot of energy.....mostly negative...

What if The rock n' roll hotel has to find new space. This is worrisome news for the neighborhood!

Why is Joe Englert getting so nasty in the comment at 6:25. People were just concerned about the business and now he's turned it into a competition to who does more for the community. My personal opinion is that all contributions are valuable, and it's unfair to make these types of comparisons. Quite frankly, I think anyone who contributes to our community should be offended by these remarks.

I am not being nasty. We will be open for another 14 plus years.......but Tom thinks it would be a big joke if we had to close our doors. I am sticking up for my employees..their hard work and efforts are important....they really sacrificed to make the place work....would you like it if somebody stuck a for sale sign on your business to cause all this confusion....not pleasant....

David B. I am not comparing myself to anybody. I could care less if anybody denigrates me or makes in fun of me. Go ahead. But I really don't like anybody disregarding all the people who have worked at RnR for all these years and believed in the project.for many years of little money..And you would be the last guy I would ever want to offend.

I thought Tom A. was just taking the piss out of the first commenter, who didn't seem to read the full post. At any rate, thanks to Joe Englert for popping up and nipping any rumors in the bud.

So is the rock n roll hotel moving?

NO

Rock & Roll Hotel is staying put. David B. is a regular troll here who often contents himself with rape jokes (which I delete). I'm leaving his stuff up here bk people have replied to it. Pay him no mind.

Oops!

I was just giving my friend John a hard time, by pretending to be confused about the RNRH closing or moving- neither of which is going to happen, according to Joe's earlier post about he building being for sale, but that they have 14 years left on their lease.

It's why I said "kidding" at the end of my post. We all understand that the RNRH is not closing or moving. Unfortunately, sarcasm is hard to get across in written language.

My apologies for pissing off Joe- we need him to continue to use his powers for good in our neighborhood!

Thanks again Joe!

Sorry Tom A. for being such a hot head. Give me a shout out and I will buy you a drink and we will toast the grand H Street corridor........

Joe, wouldn't you want to buy it if you plan to be around as long as a loan period? I always figured you were big into owning instead of having to spend money leasing. Doubly surprised because it seems like that was around before a lot of other properties were taken, so I figured you did own it already.

Is the rock and roll hotel closing?

Wow the trolls are in full force with this one. Nothing like some Monday morning hilarity.

I really love the rooftop deck at Rock N' Roll Hotel. I hope they don't have to move.

I apologize for my initial confusion but this particular blog entry was silly and confusing. Some readers thought the owners of RnR owned the building, others knew that they rented it and most didn't really carre either way. If the main point is that RnR will remain open for at least 14 years then that's great news -- but it's also the "status quo", or what I would have expected to happen anyway. I don't really care who owns the building if RnR has locked in an agreeable rent-controlled situation.

John said...

Oh, and Tom - I think I was the only one who knew you were joking with me. Sorry to get you in trouble :-).

John and Tom A.--please return to PoPville where your square obtuseness will be better recieved. Joe E you are the MAN, and this awesome neighborhood (and U St in particular) owe a lot to your vision and hard work. Thank you.

Wow. I'm blame the blog author for spreading these rumors and stirring the pot.
