Big Nest, an Art Installation at Wylie Community Garden

Nest

A local artist invites neighbors to participate in her art:

This big nest is waiting for you in the garden! It is 4 feet in diameter and 2 feet tall. The nest was made using discarded yard waste from the corner of the community garden. I loved the repetition of going back and forth to the pile to find the next handful of twigs, placing them in the established form and thinking about the gift of life. An assignment called “Left Behind” requires making a series of work that thinks about the space and uses materials that relates to the space.

The nest is a start and I have invited viewers to place an object in the nest, take a photo and email it to me. paige_byrne[at]corcoran.edu
Wylie Community Garden is on 13th Street between H & I Streets.

This nest is awesome. Worth a trip to the garden to see. Also, notice a natural fort being constructed right next to it! Wylie Garden is becoming a bit of a sculpture garden as well! Love it! Awesome job!

This is so fun! I am thinking on what I will put in the nest and take a photo of. I love the idea of merging public art and community gardens. It makes for a great year round space! Come on over to Miner Elementary OR Kingman Garden (D and 21st NE alley)...we love art too!
