Small Fire Closes Dangerously Delicious Pies for the Day

Dangeriously Delicious Pies suffered a small fire earlier today. Though it was quickly extinguished, they will still be closed for the rest of today. The shop will reopen at 11am tomorrow. Need a pie fix? Try their Union Station location.

"Dangerous" and "Pies" are both accurate, but "Delicious" is still false advertising.

Way to be a nameless jerk, Anon 3:57. So easy to be a prick when no one knows who you are.

Luckily no one was injured.

I hope no one was hurt, even though I believe the pies are a bit expensive.

It's amazing how pricks use any opportunity to make snarky comments. Point this out, and you need to relax.

Relax dude.

How did the fire start?

This is the USA. If someone doesn't feel that a pie is delicious that's their right! It's not being a prick or a jerk to not like something, is it?

Personally, I don't like chess based pies, so when I'm feeling rich and go to DDP, I'll order a non-chess pie. (I love the apple crumble- or whatever they call it) Perhaps this commenter has only tried their chess pies, which are NOT delicious.

I recently tried the chocolate, and it was not very good. FACT.

DDP is ok. Hit or miss in my opinion. Though I still refer to them as Dangerously Expensive Pies. I like to think I am clever.

Inked, your censorship whims are very subjective and unevenly applied. You have no issue with "Claire" making a personal swipe at someone expressing an opinion (however unpopular or biting that opinion may be) but when someone in turn questions HER self righteousness in appropriate, civil language, you delete their comment. That is an uneven standard and a shame. It's noticed, and IMO it's a mark against your otherwise excellent work on this widely appreciated blog.

Kyle,
There is one particular troll who frequents this blog. I try to delete that person's comments when I see them.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Kyle for explaining that.

Watch, if you say something bad about Granville Moores your comment gets taken down. The artichoke dip there is terrible.

I would like to go ON RECORD as saying that those Pies are in fact, truly Delicious. They had a Mounds-inspired pie not too long ago that was transcendentally flavorful. And their blueberry, while oddly unsweet, is pretty satisfying. That's not even to mention the superior Apple. However, it is true that their prices are a bit Dangerous. Truth in advertising, I think.

Not likely the pies isn't being a prick. Taking the opportunity to state it after a somewhat dangerous incident is. And thanks, I am quite relaxed.

I made the original comment. I think Claire's response was way overboard for a little internet snark (I can't remember ever firing off insults like that to anybody, anonymous or otherwise), but all comments should be here, including the overly self-righteous ones, and those sending up the over self-righteous ones.

But ultimately it's a personal blog, and if the mod wants to delete comments (like PoP), that's her prerogative.

3:53,
I assure you that most of what gets pulled is pulled bk it comes from a particular troll who seeks to steer the conversation. Favorite topics: rape jokes, masturbation jokes on family or child related posts (deleted three of those today), claiming to have gotten food poisoning at half the places on H Street, claiming to have had sex on the bar/in the bathroom of most restaurants and bars in the area, making identical statements (same wording each time) about parents who raise kids around here being selfish, referring to the area as *scary*, accusing various people (often bartenders/servers) of not having real jobs, descriptions of cutting up, cooking, and eating lost pets, and typing surprise on every homicide or injury post, or just typing obscenities.

I see every comment, so I can usually tell when it's the same author. Particularly when I see a cluster of comments along the same vein all left at the same time. If I left most of these comments, the comment sections would be unreadable. Trust me, I prefer to not moderate and delete comments.

I couldn't care less who likes the pies, that's not the point. The point is something potentially tragic or damaging happened and the ONLY thing people are talking about is the friggin pie. Only one person asked how it started. Making jabs at their product in comments under a blog about a fire is, in my opinion, a cold thing to do.

geeeeez! what happened to people being supportive of small businesses? This city is doomed. I used to like the supportive nature of this blog. The post was informing the neighborhood of a small fire and it sounds like many hateful spiteful readers here would have been ok with people getting hurt b/c they don't like chess pies particularly. I mean my god. The very first commenter and the other heartless happiless and hopeless humans on this comment thread is exactly why this country is in a sad state. Get with the program people. Support one another and put the hate & hateful words to bed already.

I'm not asking that everyone be positive in everything they post, but I do want people to stop and think before they post. For years people told me that one of the things they really enjoyed about Frozen Tropics was that people were very decent to each other and mostly supportive. Internet comments in general can get pretty nasty, and perhaps it was inevitable that as this blog grew it would attract a troll or two, and the comment tone would change.

I do hate having to pull comments, time and again someone either posts stuff that is excessively hostile/nasty. And, as I said, I do try to pull almost all of the comments from a certain troll (I leave up a few). So that's why people might see some ordinary sounding comments getting pulled. Here's the comment policy:

Guys, please be polite. Remember that these people are your neighbors. I ask also that anonymous users leave some kind of tag [e.g. big green cat] for the sake of being able to follow a thread. Be respectful and have fun.

Someone trying to talk about a perspective on an issue does not a troll them make.

This person isn't expressing an opinion just trolling. No intelligent thought involved at all.

I agree they're on the pricey side but you're in the city and you're getting pies made fresh from scratch daily using local fruit/ingredients.
The line for DDP is usually going out the door on weekend evenings, so I suspect most people agree with me.
If you want to spend less $$ Mom's Apple Pies in Leesburg offers fresh pies made daily using fruit from local farms and they charge roughly half per slice.

I don't know. I think the comments are the best part of this blog.....
