Sol Mexican Grill is Open

Tacos!
Well, at least the downstairs is open. This piece from the Washingtonian makes it sound like we may have to wait a couple of more weeks for the full service restaurant to open upstairs. But whatever, because you can still get a taco until 3:30am. Check out this preview post from District Cuisine (with photos).

nice staff, but beans and meat were too salty, and the rice wasn't cooked enough.
I'll try again.

Had the traditional tacos for takeout and they were pretty solid. The al pastor in particular was very good. They forgot to put a couple tacos in our bag and one of the guys ran several blocks to find us and give them to us which was impressive. A great addition to the area.

Tried them out for dinner tonight. 6 tacos between the 2 of us. They were out of lengua and carnitas. The ordering process was really chaotic, which is odd, since it's just tacos. They really should ditch the whole Chipotle copycat scheme, and just operate like a normal taqueria.

We tried out the chorizo, barbacoa, brisket, al pastor, and chicken. All of the meat was sadly, very dry. The tortillas needed much, much more time on the griddle.

It's their 1st weekend open, so service issues are expected, but they've been operating their trucks for a while, so the dry meat/cold tortilla problems should've been worked out a while ago. We'll still give them another shot in a few weeks, but for now, we'll still make the short trek over to El Chilango.

also going to mirror the dry chicken + cold tortilla review. I'll try back later incase they've improved.

I have to agree that the meat should have been better. We had chips and they were stale. It seems they haven't made the jump from serving food for two hours, to being able to bring out fresh food on a continuous basis from noon - 3am. Hopefully they will get the execution right with time as well as the ordering process (very confusing).

Got burritos there for lunch on Saturday and I have to say I thought it was pretty damn good. Maybe not California level, but better than anything I've had in DC.

I also thought it was very good and comparable to chipotle...

Fish tacos were good...

where is the picture of the flyer that says buy one get one free for everything until the 20th?
I invoked the flyer the other day and it worked.
Carnitas were nice and salty, just like they should be. It is annoying to order every single thing, I am not a chef, why are you making me pick 20 different ingredients? Just name them after Seinfeld characters or whatever and we'll pick based on the show

I echo the statement about ditching the Chipotle style service if you can'y provide Chipotle style speed. I got a burrito and it was fine and quick, but all the people ordering tacos and quesadillas with detailed instructions really mucked up the line.

No complaints on the burrito.

Maybe make an express burrito line. Or let me order and then sit down while I wait for my name to be called. Sort of my main gripe with H and Pizza too. There is no need for me to watch my pizza being made slowly. Can't I just place an order somewhere. If it can't be done fast with the line constantly moving, just do it in a regular kitchen where you can do more than one thing at a time

I can't fathom complaining about how fast the line moves at H & Pizza. Quite frankly, I'm *stunned* at how quickly it moves.
