Picture 39

Saturday April 20

39th Street Gallery (3pm to 5pm)
The 39th Street Gallery is presenting an artist talk for the closing reception of Real and Remembrance.  The talk will address English Physicist Michael Faraday’s belief that human perception comes from one’s imagination and not from one’s understanding of reality.  For more information, click here.

The 39th Street Gallery is located at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, MD

Alley Cat Studios (3pm to 6pm)
In The Sublime/Subliminal artists   Mariah Anne Johnson (who runs Porch Projects), Michael Matason, Kendall Nordin and Peter Gordon explore the tension between the emotional sensation of the sublime- an emotional feeling with the subliminal- that which is unseen yet registers deeply in one’s subconscious.  For more information, click here.

RandallScottProjects (6pm to 8pm)
RandallScottProjects will show James Busby’s Smoke and Mirrors.  Busby painstakingly builds up his canvases with gesso, graphite and paint then etches out his final compositions by scratching away at the layers.  For more information, click here.

RandallScottProjects is located at 1326 H Street NE, Second Floor.

The Fridge (7pm to 8pm)
Join the gallery for an evening of performance art by Emily Francisco.  Her work confronts limitation and loss in reaction to the confines of the environment.  While not destructive for its own sake, Francisco’s work pushes objects to the limits of their ability to withstand force in order to understand their subsequent transformation. For more information, click here.

The Fridge is located at 516 1/2 8th Street SE (behind Barracks Row)
