A reader sent in this photo of fermenters & shipping containers that recently arrived at the site of the massive brew pub Bardo that is coming to Bladensburg Road.  The bar will mostly feature outdoor seating, but will have a smaller indoor component constructed out of shipping containers.

I'm excited for this to open. I will definitely be a regular there if it's as good as people say.

I'm having a hard time psyching myself up for drinking self-serve beer out of a shipping container, ymmv. I like(d) bardo's beer, but they need to work on the proposed customer experience and really work on "facilities management".

and the "H Street party corridor" creeps northward...

I agree with MJ. I don't see what the appeal of drinking outside and serving my own beer (probably at a higher cost for the "novelty" of the experience). I hope Bardo succeeds but I think they need to invest in more than shipping containers to let people know that they plan to stick around, rather than coming through to make a quick profit.

Every bar is coming through to make a quick profit. Most bars don't last 30 years. They open, get popular, get old, then close. Every now and then, a neighborhood bar lasts the distance. I think they're going for a theme bar experience and I'm sure the inside of the shipping container will have interesting decor, etc (and windows, of course...LOL).

The original one in Virginia was before my time, but people sure do seem to have a very positive opinion of it. Therefore, I am looking forward to it. And yes, Bladensburg Rd needs more development.

Let's not rush to judgement until we either see the proposed plans or the final outcome of the development. I'm excited to see the outcome of this. Bladensburg Road needs an anchor at the far northern end of Trinidad. This could be it.

The comments are open again? Thank god.

but...rushing to judgment is what blog commenters LIVE for! Personally, I love to see people who don't know what they are talking about getting all spun up with their opinions and all-knowing recommendations about how things should be! Don't take away all their (and my) fun!

I'm psyched for it. I think they're taking a big chance locating up Bladensburg a ways. But as they say, 'high risk, high reward'. Let's hope this spurs some positive development to clean up the stretch between there and H sooner than later.

I was a frequent visitor of the Bardo in Va back in the mid-90s. It was a fun place for group happy hours, but the aesthetics of the place left much to be desired. It was rough...crap plastic chairs, open air...but the beer was tasty and reasonably priced so no one noticed. It was ALWAYS crowded. I wish them much success!

Self serve beer = no tipping. I guess that is bad for any out of work bartenders. Good for everyone else

Are there any drawings of what this will look like when it's all done? Target date of completion? Etc

Pretty sure I'm still waiting for my t-shirt from the Kickstarter I donated to. Looking forward to having them open...but man I'd love to be rocking that t-shirt right now.

I was just working with Bill earlier today and all the permits are in order to begin brewing and serving beer in the outdoor area. Concrete pad for the walk-in cooler being laid tomorrow. Beer could be flowing in as little as two weeks. He hopes to break ground on the indoor portion of the restaurant very soon.

I'm really excited for this to open. But it's strange how under the radar this has been. Even now, there's very little if any coverage on this development.
