The formerly cheery little deli at the corner of 7th and H has remained sadly shuttered since the tragic murder of its owner June Lim. Lim was killed during a botched robbery that took place even as she was making plans to retire, and looking forward to becoming a grandmother.
Now a man who knew her has stepped forward with plans to open a new sandwich shop in the space, and to call it Heaven & H with a nod towards Mrs. Lim. Donte Beal told Jessica Sidman of the Washington City Paper that he knew June Lim well from his time working as a barber along the H Street Corridor. Since that time he has completed culinary training, and has big plans for his little sandwich shop.
Say goodbye to the carryout only model. Beal is adding a little seating (yay for a widow facing counter!), a a couple of tvs, and even wifi. Sidman further reports that Beal plans to serve a mix of hot and cold sandwiches. Look for offerings featuring croissants, english muffins, and pita bread.
I'm also intrigued by Sidman's mention of an interior wall mural featuring the likeness of June Lim.

I'm soooo proud of Mr.Donte' Beal. This has been his dream for years and its so exciting to watch it come to life. I cant wait to eat one of those signature sandwiches you'll only be able to get at Heaven & H.
