Free Historic Rosedale Walking Tour 10/26

The Capitol Hill Restoration Society (CHRS) and the Rosedale Citizens Alliance (RCA) are co-sponsoring a tour of the Historic  Rosedale Neighborhood on Saturday, October 26th.

The tour starts at 10 a.m. at the Rosedale Library (1701 Gales Street NE), and will run for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.  It will be led by two research experts from CHRS, who also led a tour in 2009.

Rosedale is roughly bounded by 15th and 19th Streets, between Benning Road and C Street NE. The tour will focus on the oldest parts of the neighborhood, including Gales, Kramer and Rosedale Streets.
The buildings in the neighborhood represent a wide range of architectural styles, such as 19th Century wood-frame victorian duplexes, and the brick townhouses of the 1920s and will highlight buildings
designed/constructed by notable Washington builders and architects.

The tour will include examples of various bricks/bricklaying techniques; roof and porch types; and inlaid and 'pressed' design elements on facades, as well as a history of the Rosedale neighborhood.

No reservations are required.  For more information contact CHRS, 543-0425, caphrs[at]aol.com or visit the website, www.chrs.org.

Bring your mace! That neighborhood is *scary*!

um, mr. or ms. anonymous at 9:01. If the neighborhood scares you, you can just stay away. Funny, but why would homes that go up for sale in a "scary" neighborhood sell in days (sometimes before they are even listed)? Doesnt sound scary to me at all. Oh, and yeah, I live here. Boing!

Well, I would describe that neighborhood as "affordable". Maybe the demand has something to do with proximity to the Unemployment Offices and EBT centers on H St?

Anon 10:38: Boom! Mic Drop

what a fuckin joke. never fails. trolls and douches with useless opinions. just like assholes; everybody's got one. thank you Al Gore for inventing the interwebs. boo goes the dynamite motherfucker

Gus Johnson, the language! It's because of this type of person that I no longer allow my child to read this blog.

Everybody needs to chill out. I'm pretty sure anon 9:01 was being facetious.

At any rate, anybody who thinks Rosedale is "scary" obviously has no idea what they are talking about and are probably bitter about overpaying for something a couple blocks further west.

Believe me, paying a little extra to be west of Rosedale was worth it....in terms of safety and proportionate home price increases. It's nice to not be the victim of a rape or shooting when I walk out if my home each morning. I also don't have to worry about my young child stepping on a needle or ingesting a crack rock discarded by a junkie running from police in the open air drug market that is that neighborhood.

A lot of houses with metal awnings in that neighborhood......just sayin'.

Guys,
You may have noticed a troll is very busy today. Probably a combination of heavy posting activity on my part, & the WaPo article. If a comment makes no sense, or is too nasty to come from a real person, that's the troll. Don't let him get you upset.

Don't be angry because you bought in Rosedale, your neighbors are still the same and your home price has actually gone down.

oh look, anon 2:10 is another ill-informed genius with a cookie-cutter real estate license. who forged your transcript dickhead?

Anonymous said...

Elleby, yikes! Looks like someone else is unhappy with their decision to purchase in that area. I guess I'm just fortunate to be able to distinguish between safe and dangerous.

I, for one, couldnt be happier living in Rosedale/Kingman Park. I just dont understand all this venom about how its an unsafe or unsavory neighborhood. Makes no sense to me.

I was beaten in an alley in Rosedale once.

I thought we got rid of anonymous posting to get away from this stuff?

Chris,
Doesn't work. A dedicated troll has many login ids.

Guys, seriously-- there's some lowlife getting off on rustling everybody's jimmies in here about Rosedale. He's probably never set foot in Rosdale and this is just about getting a rise out of a group of neighbors who know that there's absolutely nothing wrong with their neighborhood.

Not worth your time. Step back from the computer and enjoy your neighborhood today, while the troll continues to deal with whatever mental he/she has that are different from this topic entirely.

I don't mind if uppity people don't like my neighborhood. It guarantees I'll keep the awesome neighbors I already have and my rent will stay low. :D Stay out, yuppy (to the anonymous idiot who's just trying to cause some ish). I've been living out here for a year, and I love it.
