Taylor
It may be Taylor's birthday, but the gift is for you. Score one of the five hoagies listed above for only $5 now through Sunday 11/17. Valid at all Taylor Gourmet locations, but be sure to visit the original shop at 1116 H Street.

BTW, Taylor is hiring.

I find the sandwiches at Taylor to be dry. If I go, I try to remember to bring some mayonnaise to make the sandwich taste good.

7:41,
Taylor has mayo. You just have to request it.

yeah, and they'll throw in the condescending looks for free as well. It's a super deal.

The bread was always soggy too. I rarely go there anymore

For all the the dry sandwiches and soggy bread (is this combination even possible?), Taylor seems to have a lot of customers

so does McDonald's; not sure that's the strongest riposte you could have made. It strikes me that the locations near offices are doing fine. The H street location has been dead at all hours for ages now. I'm also curious about the cheese steak place - I don't think I've ever actually seen a customer in there.

Taylor's was O.K the first year it opened. It has been downhill ever since. There are so many better choices on H Street to eat.

I get great sandwiches from Taylor all the time -- neither dry nor soggy. Sucks that some of you guys have sworn it off because of sandwiches you didn't like: easier for me to get mine, I guess.

I wonder, though, about the personal motivations of someone who'd describe the H Street location as "dead at all hours for ages now", though. I've been in there at various hours of the day, several times a month, "for ages now" and have never seen it dead.

That said, there's much less traffic at Taylor Charles; in the time it takes me to go in, place an order, get it, and leave, I'll see 2-4 other customers in there. That doesn't seem like enough, to me. The main complaint I'd have about their sandwiches is that they're a bit overpriced for what you get. The standard price isn't too bad; but to get the sandwich to the amount of meat and cheese you'd get at a shop in Philly, that's an extra few bucks. Mushrooms cost more; lettuce and tomato (if you want a hoagie) cost more; and suddenly you're spending $14 for your sandwich. And then there's the $3 (!) for fries. I like the food there; but I don't go as often as I might because it's expensive.

McDonalds is also half the price of Taylor.

I like Taylor and if I want a sandwich there aren't any places I would consider obviously better in the DC area, much less on H St.

Litteri's, Italian Store, Mangialardo's, Taylor are all good. Taylor is the only one with roast pork and chicken cutlets. But I realize some people need the ubiquitous "soft sub roll", which they don't have. Maybe some people dont have saliva and need to drench things in mayo, which I'll admit is pretty good, but it kinda just a cheap easy way to make anything better when the other ingredients aren't very good

Of course, any critical observation must mean that someone has suspect "personal motivations" and feelings of animus toward a sandwich shop. Weak.

Good for you that you love it. However, compare its foot traffic to its neighbors at any time, and it looks pretty dead to me. And, if you're there as much as it sounds like, I seriously hope you're opting for the salad some of the time, bro.

Congrats to Taylor!

I can't believe it has been five years...

Anon 1:56pm: Sorry, but that's not what I said. I didn't remotely suggest that any critical observation must mean that someone has suspect "personal motivations" and feelings of animus toward a sandwich shop. What I actually did say was that anyone who would say "The H street location has been dead at all hours for ages now" makes me wonder about their motivations, since that observation's false on its face.

As for comparing its foot traffic to its neighbors at any time, obviously it doesn't make much sense to compare it to places like Cusbah or the Atlas Room or Red Rocks, right? My personal experience is that H & Pizza draws more people than Taylor, Shawafel draws about the same number as Taylor, and Taylor Charles draws significantly fewer. Beyond that, I dunno what comparisons you have in mind; you'll have to be specific.

And yeah, I do sometimes opt for the salad; but not enough, you're right about that.

I always go there for a sandwich and end up leaving with the rissotto balls. But I tend to get my steak & cheeses at Chinese carryouts, so what do I know.

Taylor is good if you're a fan of extreme flatulence...
