Increased X2 Service Coming Soon

IMG_0953

WMATA revamped some local bus routes. No details, but here's what they have said:

90, 92, 93 U Street-Garfield

A new schedule will reflect adjustments to trip times, and increased Saturday and Sunday service.

X2 Benning Road - H Street

A new schedule will reflect adjustments to trip times, and increased weekday, midday, and Sunday service.

Thank God. We need way more service, but this is a start.

Any places on H doing New Year's Day brunch?

Now, if they would only cut down on the number of stops (seems to be every other block)...

hopefully once the Trolley starts the X2 will shed a bunch of stops.

I'd like to see the X2 converted to more of the flex buses.

Pat,
The X9 was made just for you.
H street blocks on the east end are about 1/10 a mile long so a stop on each block does not seem unreasonable. Iif the bus is stopping, then the bus stop is need. I think more frequent every five - six minute on time (not clustering) service would be better, then drivers could skip stops, if no one if no one needs to get or off the bus. Not sure why metrobus does not "on time" monitor routes and add or space out busses as needed.

Foe reference, here is a map of streetcar stops.

Anon 5:06am: "If the bus is stopping, then the bus stop is needed."

The outbound D6 stops at 10th & D and again at 11th & D. These two stops are so close that a toddler could probably hit one with a wiffle ball from the other. And yet they both get used, because we're a nation of people who are lazy as hell and can't muster the exertion necessary to reach for the remote. So I disagree with your statement above. :)

1/10 is 528 feet. That's like 200 paces. Unless you are disabled, that is an insignificant distance.

So what is solved by having twice as many people getting on or off at a single stop? Not much, I think. Why not have more frequent service, and less bunching?

"So what is solved by having twice as many people getting on or off at a single stop? Not much, I think".

I don't have anything referential on hand but anecdotally can tell you that less stops is faster service, even if it results in riders in larger aggregates.

I am not one to beat the environmental drum but can also tell you that the whole stop/go routine for a bus is extremely fuel inefficient.

Why dont we just let people get on or off wherever and hail it like a cab?

The streetcar has too many stops too. This first segment is going to be completely useless. It is nothing at all like the effective streetcars in Europe people envision. (I've only been to Europe once so I'm not some Eurosnob). Those are closer to an above ground metro than a bus. Hopefully once the full system is up and running it will improve

Anon-Dude,

If you think wherever a stop is placed, it's needed,
i'd suggest you look at the X-2 stops on Benning,
just before Minnesota, east bound.

There are 3 stops in 2 blocks. One at Anacostia ave,
one at 34th St near District Taxi, and one at 34th St in front of the NE Academy of performing arts. The two at 34th St are about as far apart as a Flex Bus length.

The worst part is the 3rd stop makes the bus then jump over 4 lanes of traffic to prep for the turn at Minnesota Ave.

Those 3 stops are the Dumbest Damn things i've ever seen.

The Stop at Minnesota and Benning is pretty dumb too. The Minnesota ave station corral is half a block away, you could delete those stops and have people use the Minnesota ave corral, which would put more people in the corral, and speed up the bus routes without impact.
If it were up to me, i'd move the bus stop at 34th to the front of District taxi, delete the one at anacostia and delete both stops at Minnesota and Benning. Fewer high quality stops would do a lot.

to improve X2 service. you could have better stops with rain shelters and benches, and speed up the bus.

As for the X-9, i'm familiar with it, but it's nearest stop to me is 19th st, a long hike from where i'm at, and worse, it's a rush hour service only. if they ran 1 X-9 every hour, i'd be on it.
