What's Up With Sahra Lounge?

DSC_0053
Sahra's patio in more hospitable temps

Sahra Lounge (1200 H Street) has been closed in recent days, & they have even covered their sign. This lead to speculation (including on my part) that they might be closing up shop. I am happy to report that this is not the case. They are doing a little work on the place, & changing their name. Hopefully, they will reopen soon.

Sahra in recent days

For those unfamiliar with Sahra, it's a popular hookah lounge. They also had a patio (and hopefully will again, in time for warmer temperatures), but there was a bit of a snafu with the public space permit. In addition to hookah, they also boast a full bar, & a tapas menu. Stop by & check them out once they reopen.

hopefully, they had to change their name because they stole it from the individual who actually first opened the hookah lounge and from whom the current owners stole not only the property but the name.

Those are some strong words for someone without a name. I do not know why they are changing the name. If they "stole" it, I think that issue would be better pursued in court, than on a blog.

Do you have a link to the papers for the lawsuit that I assume you have filed?

They had a snafu with the outside patio permit in that they didn't have a permit to begin with....

"but there was a bit of a snafu with the public space permit"

Tawasha is right on on this one! Snafu generally connotes some sort of good faith misunderstanding, not "oh, I'll just fence this public sidewalk off without any consideration for my neighbors and without following proper channels so I can make a few bucks off of some lame hookah slurping hipsters."

Lame, Lame, LAME of this blog to sugar coat what this joint pulled. Also, regarding your comment at 12:44, Inked? Rhetoric? Yur doingz it wrongs.

Pretty snarky, Inked. Though deserved. Zing!

12:28,
12:12 made a very serious accusation. Maybe it's true, maybe not. I have no idea, but I don't think it's fair to anonymously spread rumors like that on blogs.

Tawasha,
They did not have a public space permit, but I've been told the situation was a bit more complicated, so that's why I used the word snafu.

11:29,
So you would like it if someone left anonymous comments accusing you of malfeasance and no one questioned them?

too many lawyers in the town, inked, that's the problem. their culture of picking apart everything you say and throwing it back in your face is rampant in this town. like a disease or infection. you are strong to continually take this harassment from readers of your Free blog. if i were you, i'd tell them to f*** off and spend their own free time creating a blog. but that's just me.

Boo hoo, 2 Cents. People are accountable for their words. Blaming "the lawyers" for holding people to their own word is juvenile. And my favorite flavor of FT comment is the kind where people say "just ban ALL comments" or the other delicious variant on censorship, "start your own blog if you want to push back on someone's comment, especially with sarcasm or snark". Some of us read and comment on this blog and enjoy the free exchange. It's not always soft and fluffy but adults should be able to handle it.

9:59, I feel sorry for you and all that know you, lawyer.

indeed. Knowing things about things that have relevance to real world things is super sad and super worthy of your pity. Thank you for being so empathetic.

Funny, 2 cents, I'm not even a lawyer. Wanna play double jeopardy where the scores can really change?

My 2 cents said...

I thought you'd be adult enough to handle it

call me a traditionalist, but i am confident that if the option of anonymity was eliminated, the level of civility would improve. If you have something to say, and you feel strongly enough to post, then at least have the courtesy of telling us who you are. do not hide behind your anonymous tag. stand up and be counted or sit quietly and accept that what you have to say is not worthy of you owning it.

Anonymous said...

Yeah well that's just like your opinion, man

well, I guess I could make whatever lame blogger account would let me call myself "heyktb," that would then link to an anonymous profile page that would then link to an anonymous, unpopulated blog, and then I could post here, calling other folks out for exercising their "option of anonymity."

So, here's the deal. Any time I post three exclamation points and a sad face after my posts, you'll know it's me, cool? That way, I am every bit as accountable as you, you model of civic virtue!

!!! :(

That place never really did it for me. But I think there may be some misinformation reported on this blog. If they were reopening, why would they cover the sign. Also, just because someone told you, doesn't make it true....

1:36,
All I can say is that that's what an owner told the Chair of the ANC 6A ABL Committee. Who knows what will actually happen.
