Cool Sidewalk Graffiti!

sidewalk graffiti photo

Pretty cool that someone decided to leave an uplifting message at a random intersection. How many of you have looked down at 9th & H Street and noticed it? Has anyone seen other graffiti like this in the neighborhood?

It's times like this that I wish we were more like Malaysia, and type of defacement would be punishable by caning.

the graffiti is a nice touch

pretty cool? how about pretty stupid and pretty annoying to both those who built the sidewalk and to those who will clean it up? but glad youre onboard alan!

you all are just haters because you are not anyone's reason to smile.

Reminds me of those ass hats trying to sell those "stop bitching and start a revolution" shirts.

the structure of the sidewalk is still intact, the construction workers who built it if they happpen to come by again in the near future, can still appreciate their work. who will clean it up? the business owner? or a city worker? if it's the later, that's what they get paid to do.

i don't see why it should remind anyone of those revolution shirts. where is the revolution in making a stranger feel pleasant?

@322 i hope someone comes by and paints their take on what would "make a stranger feel better" on the side of your house and see how you feel. i know for me, giant pictures of penises always make me feel better, so maybe we could get some of those painted around the greater H St / Trinidad area and have alan take some pictures of them, calling them "cool"!

you guys all suck. such debbie downers. nimby tools. god forbid someone should bring some creativity to a slowly dying creative community. god forbid someone tries to brighten your day. it's a damn sidewalk people. not a house. it's a positive message, not a swastika.

My point about the "stop bitching and start a revolution" analogy is that someone thinks it's clever. And it's really not that clever.

And just because I don't like this particular pithy phrase on a public sidewalk doesn't make me a downer. It makes me opinionated and principled.

I am perfectly okay with sidewalks that are just that -- sidwalks. Not canvasses.

ha! that's pretty nifty, actually. these days, those go for about 900 karma points on the east coast.in san diego, they still run for ~750. surprising that people here don't even have a clue! hilarious, actually. i have to send this to some of my surfing buddies la jolla. for the people that don't get it, well, they just don't get it. clearly they don't have anything like this back in their home towns in arkansas. although i am impressed they knew enough to get online and post comments on a blog. funny stuff! LMAO!

Anon 4pm -- don't sweat it. "Those guys" are probably the same one or two guys that poison every comment section on this blog.

I once posted that the comments section here was as bad as that at WTOP etc., and someone else told me I was wrong. Well, they were right: it's worse here.

H street could use more street art. Does anyone like the murals in the area? Smith Commons? Murray's? Da Luft? maybe it's just me, but they seem kind of cheesy. what would the neighborhood like to see?

I'm okay with that.

maybe we need all sorts of little street art projects.

@1:35 AM

I wish we could get an Aniekan Udofia mural. He has some in various places in Northwest. Here's an interview with him and pictures of his various murals: http://www.afropunk.com/profiles/blogs/a-conversation-with-artist-muralist-aniekan-udofia-when-two

Re: Murals
In case you own a property that is not a private residence, DC is looking for places to create more.

This "street art" sucks. Are we all about to commit suicide or something? Do we really need to look down at the dirty sidewalk to read that message amongst the aged gum that is also stuck there? This is vandalism, not art, and it's annoying.

Best piece I've read on the delicious irony of graffiti "artistry", for those willing to tackle a TL;DR take on the issue.
