Rock & Roll Marathon Saturday

DSC_0016

Don't be that guy who forgets about the Rock & Roll Marathon & has his best laid plans by roads closed for the race routes. Plan ahead, and I promise you'll be fine. It's also a pretty impressive sight to see all those people moving down the strip. You'll want to pay attention to both maps after the jump. One shows where the runners will be in our area, & the other one shows the full marathon route. Expect closures at least from 7am-2pm.

Come sit on the Chupacabra sidewalk cafe cheering the runners on, enjoying a margarita, and getting an early start on St Patty's day!

Also, go to bed early the night before, because the bands start blaring at the crack of dawn.

Kind of wish the whole marathon would start a bit later. Not necessarily 6am music. Ha.

For inked, did yuo put that other blog, the titan of trinidad blog, out of business?

Ha, no. Calvin moved to Ohio.

The date and time of this event would be helpful. The linked website is pretty useless and disorganized. I don't have time to look through all of that ridiculous content.

march 15th....in other traffic related news DDOT is passing a law to ticket all those who double park on H ST once the trolley gets up and running. $100.00 fine!

This event is on Saturday, March 15th, and should be finished by 12:30 pm on H st.

Why would someone drink a margarita and watch people run from the Chupacabra patio at 8:00am. That sounds disgusting.

9:34,
Then don't complain if you can't navigate the city that day. The marathon is Saturday. Roads near us will be closed starting at 7am (but smart drivers will want to be out of there earlier). Roads might be closed until 2pm, but I expect them to reopen around us much earlier.

As Alan points out, they like to crank the music up early, so be prepared for that.

9:42,
Chupacabra opens at 11:30am. You can probably catch the stragglers.

Its unclear from the website whether or not pedestrians can cross the race route. If H st. is closed, can pedestrians still get across?

chupacabra --

sold!

You can cross, but you will need to do it between groups of runners.

Cupacabra -- how about opening early that day??

Why isn't the "benefits" of this race investigated? Year after year, this group makes broad claims of giving to charity, but details are very hard to come by. Exactly how much money goes to local charities? which charities? I don't think paying to have a flyer for your group included in the participant packets should be called a benefit. How much of the costs of the police, DPW and other city services are actually paid by the sponsor? In years past, this cost was waivered. Is this still true?

good questions. who gives final approval for these marathons?

How does this affect bus routes down H? Namely the X2?

I look forward to this little Escape Into DC challenge every year like I look forward to pleasuring myself with a cheese grater. Slightly amusing but mostly painful.
