Weekend East City Event Round Up: Early Bird Edition

Anacostia Art & Reggae
Saturday – 4 p.m. to 10 p. m. This Saturday East City Art and the Anacostia Gallery and Boutique team-up to bring you a self-guided tour of Anacostia’s cultural assets culminating in an Art & Reggae festival located at 2806 Bruce Place SE.  For more information including details on the self-guided tour, click here.

Thursday, June 26
Join Hill Center Galleries for the second annual Regional Juried Exhibition. Juror Philip Kennicott will give a gallery talk during the reception and announce the first, second, and third place winners. For more information, click here.

Saturday, June 28
Start your weekend with a visit to CHAW’s (Collectibles & Curiosities, Heirlooms, Art, and Wonderful Stuff) Yard Sale. The proceeds benefit the annual Paint Bucket campaign. To read more about this event, click here.

Dance Place at Studio 21 – 12:30 p.m.
Be creative and attend an arts and crafts workshop at Dance Place at Studio 21 on the Arts Walk. Carla Perlo and Andrea Petty-Brown will lead this free workshop.

SCRAP DC – 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
For a family friendly event this weekend, be sure to visit SCRAP DC’s Summer Carnival. There will be plenty of activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. The art exhibition currently on display will be open for guests to view as well. For more information about this event, click here.

Brookland – 1:30 p.m.
Artist Rajan Sedalia continues teaching classes about street art Saturdays through July 12. Learn about graffiti art, painting, airbrushing, cartoons, comics, color, and abstract forms. The Brentwood Arts Exchange – 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Wait no longer. Round 3 of Project American’s Next Top Master Artist is here. The five continuing artists will have to face the judges during this opening reception. For details on the artists and the exhibit, click here.

Hamiltonian Gallery - 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
In his solo exhibit, Billy Friebele abstracts the everyday sounds and images of the U street corridor. Friebele pays homage to Duke Ellington on the 100th anniversary of Ellington’s Soda Fountain Rag. To read more about this multi-media event, click here.

Gallery O on H – 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Stop by Gallery O on H for their relaxing courtyard Jazz series, Jazz in the Hood and view the gallery’s permanent collection. This event is free and open to the public.
