Me and My Supermarket Is The Latest "Long-Time" Store To Get Renovated

New storefront

The gradual beautification of H continues with a new storefront for Me and My Supermarket, the convenience store at 1111 H. They are also re-doing the interior. The building that houses this store was sold this past January, so it looks like the new owners have big plans. They have no Yelp reviews up to date. Have any of you shopped at Me and My Supermarket? What kind of items would you like to see in the revamped store?

“Gradual beautification” yeah that’s one term for it. Then again as I just said, hope is better than BS I suppose. I hope it changes, but I wonder what its changing to and who’s left behind. Or perhaps none of that matters, and only one set matters (those with means). Either way change is constant, just like spin is in Washington and per haps BS in the blogosphere.

Um, Robby, did you see how Me and My Supermarket used to look? It looks better now. Anything else you're talking about is way outside the scope of this post.

Any time anyone builds anything new or improves something in this city, some person will be there to whine that "someone is being left behind." It never fails. It's as if change must stop and the status quo rigidly enforced to the determent of any perception of progress.

Alan,

Stay calm and carry on. Anon 2225 sit down clam up and color. The place looked like a place I wouldn't go Sh*t faced, and so yes I am glad its changing yet yes folks who went their are losing something. Folks like me are also gaining something. As I look at my privilege I wonder is my easy of life at the cost of others. Or maybe this is middle class guilt.

Will they still take food stamps? If so, what's the problem?

Not everything changes. You can always rely on a drunken Robby post. Its a frozen tropics privilege. Now excuse me, I have to go put in my keno #s and buy some wild irish rose at the high class me and my supermarket with all the other middle class folks.

Keep calm and overreact.

i won't go in cause it still has a bunch of drunk people loitering outside same thing like crown's. you can change signs and interiors, but if you got trash on the street, some people won't go in

There is an informed rumor that Joe Englert bought the place.

The place certainly has a history, it was the site of the first ANC 6A fight prohibiting the selling of singles as a condition for community approval of their liquor license.

We are proud to be re-opening a store that retains the many loyal and faithful customers of the past. We plan to retain the crucial long-time staff and can't wait to see our old neighborhood friends again..But in the meantime, we have taken some down time to paint, rearrange shelves and counters and stock the place with a broader range of micro beers, wines, champagnes and edibles. Hopefully this will remain and grow as a neighborhood asset and we look forward to seeing you in the next few weeks..

Thanks, Me & My Ownership

I've only been in here in the past to buy cigarettes or cheap beer; 1101 Convenience always had a better selection of beers and wines. I will stick my head in to check out the new stock. I wish more corner/convenience stores would carry a wider range of dairy and other perishables, aside from single-serving sliced cheese, lunchables (if you're lucky), and milk, but I understand why they don't. There may be more demand for it soon, with all the condos about to come on the market.

Robby,

It's all good. I've lived off H for 11 years and in DC for 21. I know things have changed radically. I just think, in this specific case, the store looks better and I'm happy it looks better. I'm sure anyone who has walked past it (like me) or shopped in it (unlike me) will be happy to see the improvement.

I walked past and literally stopped in my tracks, that's how profound the difference was from how it used to look (wish I had a "before" picture, but I don't). On that note, I encourage everyone to take pictures of the street now, because in five years, I think it will look completely different.

And, yes, Robby, sadly that does mean more displacement will likely occur (like it has been occurring for at least ten years).

I wrote way more, but maybe I'll save it for a future post.

I wish they sold tequila rose there

shouldn't it be My Supermarket and I? The only thing being left behind here is grammar.

Alan Page said...

Traewon,

The store name is not a complete sentence. Either "Me and My Supermarket" or "My Supermarket and I" may be correct, depending on the larger grammatical context.

For example: "A nuclear attack destroyed every person and structure in my neighborhood, except me and my supermarket. Thankfully, my supermarket and I were protected by a force field."

Ah, good point! Thank you!

Most store names aren't complete sentences. They are often just a noun. Granted' sometimes a proper noun, sometimes a noun and adjective,
but rarely are store names complete sentences.

Pat,

I never said that most store names are complete sentences. I just stated a fact that "Me and My Supermarket" is not a complete sentence, to emphasize that "Me and My Supermarket" could be grammatically correct when used as part of a complete sentence. While your observation is appreciated, I don't think it was needed here.
