Postponed due to expected heavy storms tonight. Look for the market next Thursday.
++++++++++

It's billed as the first nighttime farmers market in the District, and it will offer residents returning from work a chance to shop sustainably for food from a variety of vendors. The new market will take place every Thursday from 3-7pm. It will feature 10-20 local vendors who will sell fresh, locally grow produce. You'll find seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers and other plants, artisan baked goods, natural meats, and other food and food related products. Shoppers will be able to pick up sampler-sized portable portions from local downtown and area restaurants. They'll even have a beer and wine garden with selections you can sip and enjoy while shopping at the market.

More from the press release:

In recent years, the rising demand for fresh and local produce and sustainable grocery practices have caused farmers markets to pop up all over the nation. Their latest evolution takes advantage of the fact that for many people, the evening hours are the best time for a shopping expedition. Nighttime farmers markets are blurring the lines between grocery shopping and entertainment—a fun night out that speaks to urban citizens of every age. And with summer temperatures soaring across the country, these markets are catching on at just the right time.

The Starburst Twilight Market will take place every Thursday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. starting this Thursday, June 25 through mid-September at the Starburst Plaza Intersection, where H Street NE, Bladensburg Road NE, Benning Road NE, Maryland Ave. NE and Florida Ave. NE meet (1500 block of H Street NE).

There’s even more to look forward to this summer at the Starburst Plaza! The Twilight Farmers Market is just the first taste of all the exciting programming planned for the intersection this summer. In the coming weeks, area residents can look forward to the launch of a weekly live entertainment series, a weekend market, rotating art exhibitions and more all at this exciting location.

Guess H Street Main Street has to look like they are doing something other than the festival for that 20+ million that the city gives them.

I'm a supporter of this idea but I highly doubt this is being postponed due to weather. The announced it with 24 hours notice-- it has sloppy management written all over it. The chance of rain this afternoon is no higher than any other summer afternoon.

1:53,
I'm not entirely sure about that. I'm seeing hourly forecasts of 60-90% chance of rain during tonight's market. I also get press releases about a lot of events all over DC and this is not the only weather related cancellation I've seen come in today. I do agree that they could have released the initial announcement earlier.

I can't wait to pick up some locally produced crack and some meth cooked on an old farm in West Virginia.

On the bright side, you don't need porta potties because can apparently go to the bathroom where ever you want.

Thoughtful planning needs to happen, too. Why did they add a Farm Fresh market on Thursday evenings when the Arcadia Mobile Market is at the Family Health and Birth Center at the same time? It is only a block away. They have only been up and running a month or two but still there is no need to overlap the two markets.

2:41,
Good point. The Arcadia Mobile Market is more than a block away, but it its close. Thursdays Family Health and Birth Center - 4-6pm; 801 17th St. NE, Washington, DC. Not sure why this market is scheduled for the same day.
