Dollar Cost Plus is First to Be Shuttered for Synthetic Pot Under New Law

DC News FOX 5 DC WTTG

Fox 5 reports that the Dollar Cost Plus store at 1109 Bladensburg Road is the first store to be shut down under DC's recently passed emergency synthetic drug legislation. Those who attended Tuesday's ANC 5D meeting heard Chair Kathy Henderson refer to Bladensburg and Benning Road as "Zombie Corridors" where some people might go to procure or use synthetic marijuana. Commissioner Adam Roberts of ANC 5D03 is interviewed for the story above.

I'm no fan of Kathy Henderson but she is totally right about the "zombie corridors". If she can help rid both Bladensburg and Benning Roads of this it will be great accomplishment.

i'm sure that if kathy had it her way, she'd replace the "zombies" with religious fanatics... which are dangerous to her as well, but in a different way.

i mean. it *has* to be the crackheads and illiterates that voted her in. get rid of them, and there's no way she would ever be elected - even by religious folks. people that believe in jesus and god's teachings would simply not tolerate her and her greed, wrath, envy and pride. those are sins, no? she has 'em all!

Marijuana is legal now in DC, who would ever smoke Bath Salts, spice
or synth?

That stuff rots your brain

i guess now that normal pot is normal. it's not street enough to smoke it.

So if we release the Non-Violent drug offenders wont they just crawl in our windows, break into our cars and steal everything in sight? How is this progress? We arent treating the addicted and the mentally ill. The working class are the ones who pay for this so called justice.

if i see some druggie crawling through my window, i'll "treat" that zombie like one on the Walking Dead

They already do that shit, who cares if they have one less source to get high at?

The whole Bladensburg corridor has so much potential, but it's all wasted currently. Crappy used tire stores. There are 3-4 liquor stores. How many liquor stores do you need in a quarter mile radius?

Hopefully, W.S. Jenks moving is a sign that this corridor is going to be cleaned up, because it desperately needs it.

It's impossible to open any sort of real business on Bladensburg. You will get robbed, your patrons will get harassed and robbed, your business will be vandalized. Why bother?

People said that about H St, They say that about Benning.

They said that about Minnesotta

Places change, people change and move on.

I'd say that Bladensburg is rough but the Flats at Atlas, Bardo, Jimmy Valentines,
Jenks and MotherRuckers are all reasons to go there.

NoMa used to be rough, but we change, we invest.

I really have liked living here. I'd like the streetcar to get rolling

the fake drugs are not bad i've tried them. please refrain form commenting unless you actually have used them and are not just jumping on the media "zombie" bandwagon.

The drugs are not a big deal and this is a shame to close a business like this.

11:57,
Pretty sure people should feel free to comment even if they haven't chosen to ingest unknown potentially hazardous chemicals.

Anonymous said...

yeah, do we want the comments here to ready like the ones on Arlington Now?

@anon 11:57: Yes, let he who has not stripped naked and tried to eat a stranger's face cast the first stone.

@11:57 read the nytimes article from last Sunday. The batches very widely and there's so much variety to synthetic cannaboids that you can't say from having "tried it" that you know how bad it is. The stuff can range from practically no effect to turning people into out of control monsters. It's a serious problem and this action shows that the MPD is treating it as such.

At the last ANC 5D meeting more time was spent by a Commissioner asking animal control if it was ok to leave her dog's poop in her yard than was spent on the issue of taking back the streets from the animals on these synthetic drugs (for those not in attendance it was Peta-Gay asking if she should just ignore the piles of her animal's feces in her yard. side note for those who don't know better, don't leave poop in your yard. it is not a clean thing to do.) We need some people on the ANC who will clean up the streets and their own yards.

5:21,
I completely agree that time could have been allocated better at that ANC meeting, but my recollection is that Peta-Gay Lewis was asking about poop left by someone else's dog. But I'd have to check the recordings to be sure.

Without a doubt, she asked about dealing with other dog's poop too. The thing is she also asked if it was ok to leave her dog's poop in her yard. I will never forget it because the very idea turns my stomach, I cant imagine discussing such topics as a public official. Dignity and courage are the measure of civic virtue. I don't have the tapes, otherwise I would provide a link to make it easier for others to verify the truth.

focusing on the drugs ignores the real issues. drugs never made anyone do anything they wouldn't normally do. some people are crazy and eat faces, its not the drugs.
educate the kids and parents, create jobs and spend money cleaning up the streets. closing a business 'cause they sell stuff you don't like is morally wrong.

Hey Mr./Ms. "I've Tried It": 911 gets 15 calls a day because of someone on that stuff. It's only a matter of time before you get a trip to the hospital or stab someone on the metro. PLEASE just go buy the legal stuff ok??

well if it's "Street" to smoke Bath Salts, I guess MPD will know who to target.

Speaking of which Saturday night we were out on Bladensburg and we saw a
young B/M maybe 28, apparently unconscous sitting against a light post
ob Bladensburg very close to the H st end.

I guessed he was drunk or high and wanted to leave him alone as
everyone else was just walking past him..

Is that a common thing?
