The 700 block of H Street

MPD has identified the decedent as 32 year old Jerome Leroy Wright. Mr. Wright was apparently attempting to rob the other four men when one of them fought back and attempted to gain control of Mr. Wright's gun. That plan did not work out so well, and the resisting victim was shot in the chest. He did eventually get control of the gun and shot Mr. Wright multiple times in the chest. One of the other intended robbery victims was shot by mistake during the struggle. Some of that comes directly from a this Washington Post story, which contains additional details. The Washington Post piece also says the shooting is likely to be ruled a justifiable homicide, meaning no charges would be filed in Mr. Wright's death.

Here is the MPD press release once again:

Homicide: 700 Block of H Street, Northeast

what are the chances the gun used to kill the robber was legally in the hands of whoever fired the fatal shot?
from this story it appears the robber had a gun and someone he tried to rob was also armed.
there are clusters of dudes who sit around and clearly are drinking alcohol in public, some are dealing drugs, in this area of H. And the cops do absolutely nothing.
And the fact there's some neighborhood beef in the 8th/H area with stabbings and shootings also seems to not have drawn any additional attention from the police.
what will it take?

@8:40:00 AM, every version of this story has the guys being held up and wrestling the gun away from their assailant. I don't know how you got to the point that the guy being held up was also initially armed. I feel like if there were multiple guns on the scene it may have been reported by now.

MPD press release reports members of First District heard the shots, but WaPo reports that officers that were patrolling a Howard homecoming event responded.
