Get ready for a samba studded treat when Pointless Theatre stages Gimme A Band, Gimme A Banana: the Carmen Miranda Story at Capital Fringe (1358 Florida Avenue). The show uses live music, dance, and puppets to tell the tale of Carmen Miranda. Find yourself transported back to 1940s era Hollywood and learn how the Brazilian bombshell became a household name as you enjoy the songs of the “Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat.” Let Pointless Theatre lead you on a journey through mainstream America's introduction to Brazil, and an examination of cultural commodification. The show runs through November 14th, and is designed to appeal to all ages. Tickets are $20 – $25, and available on the Fringe website. You can also read this Washington Post review that called the production "distinctive and ebullient."
