Ten 01 (1001 H Street), the new restaurant located above Ben's Chili Bowl (and from the same family) will hold its grand opening at 2pm on Saturday. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on the restaurant's rooftop bar overlooking H Street. To celebrate, they'll have all-day happy hour specials, including $2 off signature cocktails and draft craft beers, as well as $5 glasses of select wines. The food menu features seasonal ingredients in a variety of small and large plates. I have heard positive reviews from friends who have visited.

Small plates can go to hell

You want small plates they are better for you, smaller portions are healthier. They also take less water to wash and are good for the environment. They weigh less and are easier for the wait staff to carry. You should want to pay a little more for less when the benefit to everyone is HUGE ! Your grandchildren or other people's grandchildren would thank you if you were still alive in the future when they live in the perfect world you sacrificed to create for them and all the other unborn. I thank you, for paying others more, for less. THANK YOU!

Small plates are unamerican. My forefathers struggled to build this country so at I could pay ungodly amounts of money for ungodly amounts of (mostly) unhealthy food - even delivered straight to m living room, should I decide not to move my ungodly ass to have to go and hunt it down myself. It annoys me that when I mak a choice to go out to eat, that I have to even entertain a place that wants to charge me actual American dollars for a small plate of exquisitely prepared nourishment that won't ever have the Christian opportunity of residing in my belly fat, in reserve for the oncoming lean years that we're going to be having - thanks to Obama, the gentrifiers, and the transplants from Seattle. What ever happened to the country we all used to love? Small plates are just a small reminder of how far off the true path we have come, as a nation. Small plates - small minds. Down with small plates! Don't accept this incursion, this violation of everything that is right about America. The Greeks had it right when they would smash small plates in defiance of change for the sake of change. I'm starting a super PAC to keep big assed plates on our tables! Support the common good and donate to our future now, while you still have the chance! While you can still say NO to small plates. PACkedPlates(dot)com. You can thank us when we get our sister group up and running, fighting against the illegal stigma against obesity and gun possession. Have a blessed day!

The problem with small plates is that you have to pay more for less. If you are offering less, then make the price structure reflect that. That's the biggest problem with DC "tapas" places. You end up getting 6 dishes, you pay $40 for it, and you leave still hungry. So, like I said, Small plates can go to hell.

"why am i paying more for less?" i was going to say, "how pedestrian"...
but you have a point. more money, more food.
*this* is why have popeye's, mcdonald's, pizza joints, etc. all for the likes of you.

which is fine. it means i don't have to sit next to people like you when i'm enjoying good food in responsible portions.

you remind me of those signs they have at the crappy furniture stores: why pay more?

there are plenty of places in this country for the likes of you, not to worry your little head off.

10:24:00 AM, you sound ridiculous. Why are you such a small plate defender? If we believe that prices and portions should correlate, so be it. We are not the only ones who feel this way. The small plate fad will fade. Just like other restaurant fads.

"it means i don't have to sit next to people like you when i'm enjoying good food in responsible portions." What a disgusting comment.

Of for heaven's sakes. Prices and portions do correlate, at all restaurants. If you're at a small plates restaurant, and you order two, you get twice as much food and pay twice as much money. Is their food more expensive per unit volume? Of course; but the same is true at the Inn at Little Washington or Le Diplomate, or the Source, too. You'll pay twice as much as you would at the Atlas Room at one of those restaurants for the same quantity of food. Different restaurants have different price points per unit volume of food. If that's the most important thing to you -- and the quality of the food, the environment in which you're having it, the dynamic of trying lots of different dishes instead of a small number of them, aren't so important -- then there's a huge number of places to go to maximize quantity-per-dollar. To make sure I get stuffed isn't why I go out to eat; I can do that at home on Dinty Moore beef stew if that's what I cared most about.

Jesse,

They have a stroller waiter, he's fantastic.

damn. I wanted to boycott this place after they broke the law and rather than renovate the building they purchased, they tore it down instead. And the chili *really* sucks.

But that deck.... it may prove irresistible. Some beautiful decks cannot be ignored.
