Neighbors Band Together After a Storm, & Snow Gets Cleared

Untitled
A few of the neighbors who helped dig out the alley

Most of us managed to dig out and shovel our own steps Sunday, but snow blocked alleys remained a concern. In the alley behind the 1200 blocks of Morse Street and Florida Avenue Trinidad residents teamed up on Monday morning to clear a nearly 300 foot long path wide enough for cars to drive down. It took us a few hours, but we had a tremendous sense of satisfaction once we finished. I'm aware of other groups of neighbors doing the same thing elsewhere in Northeast D.C. Did you make it happen on your block?

We tackled the task of digging a path out to the alley on Sunday, but how we would reach the street remained an open question.

We tried to be careful about where we made the unavoidable snow piles so that we wouldn't block anyone in. We also hydrated along the way with cups and water for anyone who got thirsty.

We were not able to do the whole alley, but a great deal of it is clear now.

I think this is a terrific example of what you can accomplish when neighbors work together. It's just one more reason that I really love where I live.
