What to Wear When Riding the Streetcar

First DDOT released a fun video showing us how to ride the streetcar, which the Washington City Paper promptly turned into some GIFs. Now our neighbor Josh Kramer has designed a Totoro inspiried t-shirt ($20) you can proudly wear while riding it. Whether you buy a cat streetcar shirt or not, you can attend the streetcar's official launch this coming Saturday (February 27th) 10am-12pm on 13th Street, between Wylie and H Street. The event is free, and so is riding the streetcar during its initial service period.

Look at this, I knew this street car was trouble. Bringing all these crackers into the neighborhood to steal our women.

well I hope they redesign the X9 and X2 to take advantage of the streetcar.

Either cut down X2 stops or re-align the X2 to run on Maryland Ave,
and reset the x9 stops to hit 4th st NE and 26th St NE...

Hey Pat,

Why not just demand a non stop bus from your home to work and back? I'm sure that you have noticed that other folks use the X2 and X9 and get on and off at those stops. Bus stops on H have already been eliminated to make way for bar stools and "happy hour" signs.

The chubby white guy was walking on the wrong side of the woman at the end. A gentleman always walks on the street side. Also, that Pillsbury doughboy would never get a fine lookin sister like that to go out with him in real life.

Pat,

The streetcar offers no help for people who take the X2 or X9 past Union Station, which the majority of riders do. Without downtown access from the streetcar, no stops should be eliminated from the X2 or X9. There isn't much "taking advantage" to be had with the current streetcar route.

True. Ol whitey never stands a chance to get a hot ebony sister when the competition of gainfully employed well mannered brothers is so stiff.

9:51,
I'm definitely not getting paid to promote anything. I just think the shirts are cool.

Love the shirts...although I watched the first minute or two of that video and I'm sure I'll get nightmares.

Love the streetcar...it'll drive new business investment along Benning and my kids will love it.

Love the blog.

Just wondering how out-of-it I am: had anyone here other than inked ever heard of Totoro before?

Studio Ghibli (makers of Totoro) is kind of the "gold standard" for Japanese animation. Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are considered standouts and great movies in their own right (as well as Grave of the Fireflies but I've never seen it), I'm partial to the weirdness of Howls Moving Castle.

If I see anyone wearing that shirt on H Street I will punch them right in the nose.

I guess you don't understand what Re-design the X2 or X9 means.

Mojotron: I am familiar with Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away; I haven't seen either, but I know they exist and I've been told by folks whose opinions I value that they're both excellent. But I'd never heard of My Neighbor Totoro or the Catbus. I just wondered how out-of-touch I am.

Curmudgeon,
I would not have been able to make the Totoro connection had the artist not mentioned it in an email. Once I watched it I did recall a high school friend who spent time in Japan showing me clips of the cartoon.

and people making racial comments gee wiz can we all get along, it doesn't matter what color you are, its your character that matters.
