Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Star & Shamrock

DSC_0859

The Star & Shamrock (1341 H Street) has big plans for celebrating St. Patrick's Day this year. It's an all day celebration with live music, so this might be a fun Thursday to skip the office. The tavern will open at 8am with an all-day array of bar and food specials including the following:

  • Classic house-cured corned beef and cabbage
  • Homemade Irish bangers and Colcannon Knish
  • $5 Irish mule punch
  • $5 Jameson whiskey
  • $1 off Irish draft beer
The Celtic duo the MollyHawks, fresh from their annual St. Patrick's Day performance at the White House, will headline the party.  The MollyHawks are familiar faces at the Star & Shamrock. Reflecting on past performance at the Irish-Jewish themed tavern, frontman Kenny Wolin said “We wouldn’t want to play anywhere else on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, outside of the White House that is. Interestingly enough our ‘Come Out Ye Black and Tans/Hava Nagila’ medley has turned out to be one of our best sing-a-longs.”

The Star & Shamrock will also run drink and food specials during all March Madness games, and they'll host their annual Purim Simcha ("the Jewish St. Patrick's Day") March 23rd. That event will feature Hamentashen, drink specials, a costume contest, and live entertainment by Klezcentricity.
