H Street Great Street brings sad news that the Atlas Room (1015 H Street) has closed its doors. The restaurant, which had a way of flying under many diners' radar, could always be counted on to impress with outstanding food and drink. The restaurant's website currently bears the following hopeful note:
Neighborhood friends and patrons, The Atlas Room is in for a change! We are currently working on something special for H Street, and are moving quickly to complete our renovations. Please stay tuned and look for our relaunch at the end of this month! They recommend Copycat (1110 H Street) for the classics, a visit to Ivy City if you want to tour distilleries, and Buffalo & Bergen and Suburbia (both at Union Market, 1309 5th Street) for relaxing on hot days.
Impala Cantina (1358 H Street) made Zagat's list of the 10 Hottest Mexican Restaurants in DC.
The Washington City Paper's Jessica Sidman reports that Ivy City's One Eight Distilling (1135 Okie Street) will release a new barrel aged gin and a cask strength whiskey this month.
Republic Restoratives Distillery (1369 New York Avenue) hosts The First Pour: a Community Brunch (please RSVP) this Sunday from 11am to 3pm. Enjoy food from Mason Dixie and Union Kitchen.

too bad about the atlas room. that place was great, but always flew way too far under the radar. some advertising or specials would have done them some good. oh well. any word on when mythology & lore will open? isn't that owned by the same people as the atlas room?
Love the Atlas Room! Great food and even better service. Hope this is just a temporary closing.
I hope they reopen. One thing they needed to do was revamp their menu more often. They had the same dishes for at least 3 years. Mixing in new dishes would do well to bring clientele back to try new things. But overall, loved the food and the place. Would be very sad to see it closed down.
Man, I really liked the Atlas Room; but they weren't out in people's faces and it was easy to forget they were there.
Sad about the Atlas Room, had a fantastic meal there and always meant to go back on a special occasion. That said, what is Zagat thinking about Impala? Did they actually eat there? Impala's mediocrity after so much promise is the second greatest tragedy on H Street.
