Update on the Cusbah Landlord Dispute

DSC_0901

Popular Indian/Pakistani restaurant Cusbah (1128 H Street) continues their efforts to remain in their space even as their landlord seeks to replace them with a new restaurant tenant. On April 29th Cusbah (as SJ Enterprises, LLC) filed a complaint for breach of contract against their landlord Dianne Quander. The docket shows an initial scheduling conference set for July 29th (2016 CA 003221 B: SJ ENTERPRISES, LLC Vs. QUANDER, DIANNE). On May 3rd Ms. Quander sued SJ Enterprises, LLC in landlord tenant court seeking to retake possession of 1128 H Street (2016 LTB 011001: QUANDER, DIANE Vs. S J ENTERPRISES LLC).

Cusbah first publicly responded in an April 14th statement to local blog District Cuisine to questions about a for lease sign on their building and news the space was being otherwise advertised as available by a representative of their landlord . Cusbah also posted that statement on its Facebook page.

Here's hoping they can work out the situation and the restaurant can keep operating in its space.

I'm not entirely sure it's the same Dianne Quander, but a District woman by that name is a well known songwriter who co-wrote Anita Baker's Caught Up in the Rapture.

Based on the way things seem to be going, a year from now this will be location of the H St NE Chili's, Trump will be the President of the United States and Kathy Henderson will be the ANC5D Chairperson again.

@4:38. Please. stop. I'm going to have nightmares at the thought of any or all of that happening. :( Where are the happy thoughts?

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Cusbah. Everything about that place is freaking fantastic. Food + service + patio + bartender + ambiance/decor/music...

Tell us how we can show up for them, please!
