Crafty Bastards is currently accepting vendor applications

I got a little note from a chef at Dr. Granville's (1238 H Street) alerting me that they'll be serving subs with housemade bratwurst for brunch this weekend. I'm told they also have lots of "funky sours" on draft right now. Both of those sounds like great reasons to stop by very soon. They've also got tickets ($41.72 with tax and tip included) on sale now for their July 10th Old Ox Beer Brunch. Diners will drinks and learn about Old Ox flagships such as Golden Ox, Alpha Ox and Black Ox, as well as the newly released Hoppy Place IPA.

Here's the menu:
  • 1st course - Smoked salmon deviled eggs with pickled mustard seeds and toasted panko
  • 2nd course - Oysters on the half shell
  • 3rd course - Mexican style shrimp cocktail with avocado, celery, cilantro, clamato and tomato
  • 4th course - Moules/Frites
  • 5th course - Dessert TBD

Crafty Bastards is seeking vendors for for their arts and crafts fair at Union Market (1309 5th Street) October 1st and 2nd. Applications are due July 17th.

Unrelated: Just drove by the Checkers at 14th & Maryland, and it seems to be closed. Any idea if that's just a fluke or if it's permanent? IIRC, the store and the land were purchased by a developer a few years ago, and the plan at the time was to build apartments or condos there.

Permanent.
