Local News Brief: Cubano Groove at the Starburst, Coffee at Pow Pow, & a Kingman Park Historic District

A YouTube video of Cubano Groove performing in Silver Spring in 2014

Cubano Groove will perform salsa and Latin jazz music at the Starburst Plaza tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 8 p.m. This is part of H Street Main Street's efforts to bring more programing to the plaza, which is located at the intersection of H Street, Florida Avenue, Bladensburg Road, Maryland Avenue, and Benning Road.

Pow Pow (1253 H Street) invites neighbors to a free "Show us your mug" coffee social tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring in your own mug to fill a cup. It's the restaurant's way of thanking the neighbors who have supported the place since its opening, and also an invitation for those who haven't visited Pow Pow to come in an check the place out.

The Kingman Park Civic Association has put in an application with the Historic Preservation Review Board to designate Kingman Park as an historic district. The proposed historic district would be bounded by 15th Street on the west, the Anacostia River on the east, M Street on the north, and East Capitol Street on the south. Those unfamiliar with the KPCA might want to look the group up, as they have a pretty interesting history documented online.

Hello,

Congrats on providing a great community resource!

My client recently opened a daycare, Sprouts Town, in Trinidad and is interested in advertising on your blog. How can we contact you?

Thanks

- Carlos

Carlos,
I believe your client emailed me to tell me the center is open, and I've responded asking for information about it.

what happens if this area becomes a historic district?

How will the historic district designation affect those of us interested in doing additions (rooftop decks, new siding, etc) on our homes?
