Local News Brief: No More Bouldering/Coffee/Beer Garden for Mt. Olivet & Virtual Reality at Union Market

Twitter user @JRogers202 tweeted the above photo yesterday of a rectangular structure with facebook on it sitting outside Union Market (1309 Fifth St.). Peregrine Espresso tweeted a response suggesting it's related to an Oculus virtual reality project, and sent along a link to a story from the Daily Free Press (a student newspaper at Boston University). So this appears to be part of the Facebook Virtual Reality Roadshow. According to Peregrine, it's here through Saturday.

The Washington Business Journal reports that plans to construct a bouldering gym, coffee roastery, and beer garden on Mt. Olivet Road are no more. Joe Englert had announced the project in the spring of 2015, but the land is now for sale. From yesterday's WBJ article "Congressional Commercial expected to invest roughly $300,000 in the $4 million building. But the project's lending was subject to federal High Volatility Commercial Real Estate rules put in place in 2015, which required the developers to invest $600,000 to get financing."

But really after Joe Englert killed off the Argonaut so abruptly who wants to support his business ventures going forward?

Has there been a detailed article on what happened with the Argonaut and I just missed it?

I'm also still mad at Joe Englert for closing down the Argonaut.

Ya, I've been keeping an eye out for more detail on the Argonaut, and haven't seen anything beyond a vague reference to an ownership dispute.

Joe Englert sold his stakes in Argonaut a long time ago.

The fate of the Argonaut doesn't look good. Scott and Sharren have left town and put their house on the market.

Way to slow growth for years and years without neighborhood opinion....
