Local Briefing: ANC 5D Mtg, Cooking Classes at Union Market, & a Kids' Menu at Pow Pow

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 5D meets tonight at the 5th District MPD Station (1805 Bladensburg Road). ANC 5D covers Trinidad, Gallaudet, Carver-Langston, part of Kingman Park (depending on where you draw the boundaries), the Union Market/Florida Avenue Market area, and Ivy City. Tonight's agenda is on the shorter side, so I wouldn't expect the meeting to run late. It's the normal stuff (public safety report from MPD, Single Member District reports, updates from the Executive Office of the Mayor and the Ward 5 Councilmember), plus a public space application from the Flats at Atlas and a couple of zoning matters.
If you are looking for something fun to do later this week you might look into picking up some new kitchen skills over at Union Market (1309 Fifth St.).

It looks like tickets are still available for Wednesday's class, in which Rodney “Pie Man” Henry of Dangerously Delicious Pies will teach you how to make a French Apple Pie. Attendees will prepare their own pies to take home and bake in their own ovens. Class is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and tickets are $45.

Union Market's Test Kitchen turns its sights to fermentation on Thursday for Kombucha 101 with Craft Kombucha. Ask any burning questions you may have about kombucha, and learn how to safely brew your own at home. The $50 ticket priceincludes the class, plus a fermentation vessel, SCOBY (the culture used to make kombucha), and starter. The class runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Pow Pow (1253 H St.) has rolled out their new kids' menu. You can see a screenshot below.

If it has anything to do with Kathy, it will be a long meeting. That woman loves to hear herself talk endlessly to chest pound and cause conflict over simple matters of the commission.

The original Taylor on H Street has been "closed for renovations" for what seems like a long time. Thinking to Ocopa and other places, is "closed for renovations" the new "closed"? Hope not.

Both Ocopa and Taylor were terrible and overpriced. Hopefully something good and reasonably priced moves into those spaces.....like a Subway or a KFC.

Anon 4:09 -- Bad trolling. If you'd picked something like "Chop'd" someone might believe you were serious.

4:09,
Umm, Taylor is renovating. It's taking a while, but they do plan to reopen.

I've heard a rumor that Kovaks and the 24 hour mart on Mt. Olivet are closing at the end of the year, but can't find anything to substantiate this. Has anyone else heard this?
