Local Briefing: Bardo Trinidad Closes, Aerial Delights at the Atlas

DSC_0019

The owners of Bardo at 1200 Bladensburg Road announced on Facebook Monday that the Trinidad location of the brew-pub is now permanently closed. Fans of Bardo will be able to visit the Stewart brothers and crew over at their new Waterfront digs once they get up and running. The Riverfront location includes a space for dogs to roam that is much larger than the current Bladensburg Road space, and is entirely enclosed in by fences.

I've reached out to the owners for comment, but haven't heard back yet. Some tweets from Bardo and others suggested it's an issue with the combination of the license types for the two Bardos, but I don't have details on that. It's also not immediately clear what will become of the Bladensburg lot in the near future.

Meanwhile, down on H Street...

Wanna get this in before any negative posts about Bardo. I always enjoyed going to Bardo and I'm sad that it is no longer going to be there. Being able to ride your bicycle right in and order a beer was awesome. Best of luck to them on their new venture.

@jesse Agree on convenience. It is rare to find a place with adequate bike parking. This is one of the few of those. I hope they don't leave property to languish as empty eyesore though. Treat neighborhood right and put the property into use.

I hope it becomes a used tire store, we need more of those on Bladensburg. Or maybe a hubcap store, hubcap4yrhooptie

I can't wait for Starburst Plaza to switch its location to Navy Yard too. We are tired of people smoking Scooby and PCP there and bringing the ruckus. They pour out into the street and just wander out in the middle of Benning Road and Bladensburg Rd. It always looks like they are filming an episode of Walking Dead DC over there.

I hope our new ANC Commissioner James Butler does something to fix this mess when he takes office. The problems at Starburst plaza really effects us most as residents of the Flats at Atlas when we get off our Streetcar and have to walk thru this gauntlet of synthetic ganja and anti-social behavior. It is a true zone of chaos. This is why we voted for him. We need this fixed pronto.

Don't let us down Commissioner Butler!

if someone could put up an HD camera and point it at the Starburst and then set up a live video feed on Facebook/Youtube or whatever, I'd actually pay money to subscribe to that feed, so I could see the ratchet nonsense that takes place there all day every day.

I'd like to echo two points made here:

1. Very unfortunate about Bardo. I can't help but feel that they've slighted the Trinidad neighborhood they called home for so long. It's pretty shameful especially considering they are running to boring Navy Yard like so many commercial enterprises. Sell outs to be sure.

2. James Butler: he talked a big game, especially some (very inaccurate) remarks about how his predecessor, Adam Roberts, was not doing what he could for the neighborhood. He not only has enormous shoes to fill, but also must show up and actually do what he claims he could have done if he had been in the position for the past few years. Lots of people in our neighborhood will be looking for results, and not just talk. He's got a tough crowd to impress.

@Anonymous 2:12 - Good luck with all that! The Starburst Plaza is actually in ANC 5D05, which is Commission Henderson's Single Member District. She hasn't been successful in getting that cleaned up yet and she was voted in again, with no one else on the ballot of course.

Here is a link to your ANC5D05 borders so you can see which zone of chaos you actually live in at Flats at Atlas: http://www.anc5d.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/map5D.pdf.

Hopefully the new commissioner will accomplish something, though, and overcome the image many of us have of him as the disbarred lawyer that was kicked out of the DC Bar as a "threat to public safety". Ooof. Yeah you for electing the sketchy element to represent you?

Not that I loved Bardo, but it was nice to see a decent business on Bladensburg.

There are so many rundown buildings, used tire shops, and liquor stores that it's just depressing. It has the potential to be a nice block but it seems all the developers would rather pour their money into H St and now Ivy City. As a resident, I find this really disappointing. I was hoping the neighborhood would continue to improve and attract nice businesses, but it seems to be slipping backyard.

The election of Butler over Roberts is a sure sign things are going backwards. Roberts was a nice guy who did tangible things for the neighborhood. That fact that a DISBARRED lawyer got elected shows you that the many in this neighborhood prefer to keep it looking like a war-torn hole.

9:28,

We do have some nice things on Bladensburg Road. For instance, Jenks & Cultivate the City are very positive recent additions. There are also Mother Rucker's and Jimmy Valentine's, both of which have stuck around. The recent election has created some uncertainty and worry, but we've been through worse and survived. In short, don't give up hope. There are lots of good folks around the neighborhood, and if it's development you seek...it's definitely headed our way. What's important is engaging with neighbors, and staying/getting involved in the community. We have the power to help steer future development in a positive direction. Let's embrace it.

I'm sorry Bardo left, but, as much as I was a fan, I prefer a bit more protection from the elements
and food service.

I hope someone interested, can sublet the place and spool it up. It's got a lot of potential,
and i'd love to see it remain as a mixed venue for entertainment beer and food.

I think Bladensburg has a lot of potential, the Flats, CVS, Safeway, Zips, are all reasons to live on
Bladensburg, and I believe it will redevelope with Benning.

I wish the folks at Bardo the best and hope they can work to get something going there.

Bardo was fun while it lasted and this is a net loss for the neighborhood but truth be told I haven't been there since shortly after they raised their prices. It was an interesting place to hang out at first but the beer was fairly terrible and the ownership/management fairly unpleasant as well. IMO it never really reached its full potential. Here's hoping that something better comes to that space.

Glad to see them go. Let the Virginia baseball fans drink that swill.

Sad to see Bardo go. A really unique spot for DC.
