Local Briefing: Non-Fatal Shooting, ANC 5D Meeting, SAO Pops Up

Version 5

According to an email sent to a local listserv by an MPD representative, police responded to a report of gunshots in the 1400 block of H Street just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday. They located an adult male, who had been shot in the leg, a short distance away in the 1400 block of Morse Street. The victim was taken to the hospital, and officers later discovered shell casings in the 1300 block of H Street. The suspect has been described as a young adult black male with a light complexion and curly hair, standing 5'7" to 5'9" tall, weighing about 145 lbs, wearing a black jacket and a gold chain necklace.

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 5D will hold its monthly meeting tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Fifth District MPD station (1805 Bladensburg Road). I haven't seen an agenda yet, and I'm not sure that they actually gave adequate notice to be able to take any binding votes tomorrow.

The H Street Country Club (1335 H St.) and Maketto (1351 H St.) are both hiring right now. The Country Club is hiring for various front of the house positions, and Maketto just says they are hiring for a bunch of positions.

If you, and three of your friends, dig Vietnamese flavors and are looking to splurge on something special consider Chef Anthony Hoang's modern Vietnamese kitchen SAO Pop-Up Dinner at Maketto (1351 H St.). Tickets, which include five food courses, gratuity, and tax for a group of four diners, are $400 ("$320 for 4 person dinner + $48 gratuity + $32 tax"). SAO will pop up for only one night, with two seatings (6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) available.

Here's the menu:

  • First Course - Foie Gras “Banh Cam"  |  Orange Marmalade
  • Second Course - Pork Carnitas Banh Xeo  |  Fresh Herbs  |  Dipping Sauce
  • Third Course - Rocket Shrimp and Banh Uot  |  Sour Broth Sauce
  • Fourth Course - Shaky Beef  |  Coconut Rice  |  Watercress Oil  |  Pico
  • Fifth Course - Banh Bo  |  Lychee  |  Logan Rambutan  |  Coconut Milk
