Local Briefing: Valentine's Whole Foods Treats, Pop Up Po' Boys, & 2 DDOT Meetings

Version 2

The Hill is Home says that Whole Foods (600 H St.) staff will pass out free Valentine's cookies at the corner of Sixth and H Street tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Whole Foods folks will reportedly also use the occasion to announce the store's opening date.

Sundays are for decadence, at least that's the name of a po' boy pop up at Toki Underground (2nd floor of 1234 H St.) this Sunday (12 p.m. to 6 p.m.). The cash only affair comes to us from Adam Zerhouni, who previously worked at Fox's Den Gastropub in Annapolis.

There's a DDOT meeting Tuesday, Feb. 21, to update the community on the preliminary engineering of multimodal transportation improvements along Florida Avenue NE from First Street NE to H Street/Benning Road NE. The project goal is to provide streetscape and traffic operational enhancements that will improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists while ensuring all users have safe access within and through this important corridor. The 30 percent design plans will be shared to further refine the recommendations provided during the final design phase. Come and share your feedback from 6:30 pm to 8 pm (with a brief presentation at 6:30 pm) at New Samaritan Baptist Church, 1100 Florida Ave.

DDOT will hold another meeting down the street at Gallaudet (800 Florida Ave.) on Thursday, Feb. 23. This second meeting concerns the New York Avenue streetscape and trail project. The meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at I. King Jordan Student Academic Center (SAC).
