We had a pretty violent past few days in the larger neighborhood. I've listed some of the more serious crimes below.
1. Blunt Force Trauma - 700 block of 21st Street - Friday
At 12:53 p.m. on Friday Feb. 17 police responded to an "Investigate the Trouble" call in the 700 block of 21st Street and found an unconscious male with apparent bodily trauma inside a residence. Unresponsive, he was rushed to the hospital, but later died. Police identified him as 63 year old Walter Mack Clark of SE D.C., and they arrested 76 year old Thomasine Bennett of NE D.C. charging her with Assault with Intent to Kill. That charge was later upgraded to First Degree Murder While Armed after the autopsy results came back.
2. Shooting - 900 block of 12th Street - Friday
That night at 9:21 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots. Officer arrived to find an adult male unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, but did not survive. Police later identified the victim as 53-year-old Eric Linnair Wright.
3. Shooting - 1300 block of Florida Avenue - Saturday
An alert went out early Saturday morning for a shooting at 3:57 a.m. in the 1300 block of Florida Avenue. There was a look out given for a black male about 5'7" with a dark jacket and cap, and carrying a silver handgun.
4. Shooting - Bladensburg Road & Benning Road (AKA the Starburst) - Monday
MPD reported a shooting at 8:32 p.m. Monday night in the vicinity of the Starburst intersection (near Hechinger Mall). The alert gave an extremely non-specific look out for three young black males.
