Local Briefing: NUBOXX Opens & Tamariba Vol. II at Conbini Café

Version 4

The past Saturday saw the opening of NUBOXX (701 Second St.), a high end gym set up around building skill, conditioning, and endurance by following a boxer's workout.

Shopkeepers (1231 Florida Ave.) and Conbini Café, the tiny restaurant serving Japanese comfort food within the shop, normally close their doors at 6 p.m., but will have special extended hours for Tamariba Vol. II this Wednesday. Tamariba means hangout, gathering place, or haunt in Japanese, and in this case people will gather to eat Shio ramen (a clear broth seasoned with sea salt), and dill and edamame onigiri (rice balls). Tamariba starts at 6:30 p.m. Shopkeepers and Conbini typically keep hours of Wednesdays through Sundays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., but Chef Hiro Mitsui has been opening early on recent weekends to serve breakfast.

Shopkeepers has a lot to offer like nice notebooks, pottery bowls, and shirts. I did not see $500 pants. If they are there, that is fine because I want to retail come to the H Street corridor. We really don't need yet another bar.
