Local Briefing: V Street Eats, Stay Classy Pop Up, Kingman Island Bluegrass Review, & Developments in a 2015 Homicide Case

Construction at 12th & Florida NE. #Latergram #TrinidadDC

Eater has more details on what we might see from V Street [LINK PLAYS MUSIC] when they open in the Apollo building at 600 H Street NE.

DCist takes a look at Stay Classy, the Will Ferrell themed bar popping up at Mythology (816 H Street NE) through July.

DC Music Download has an in-depth review of the recent Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival.

Earlier this month the Washington Post covered the recent developments in the case of Jasper Spires, who stabbed and killed 24 year old Kevin Sutherland during a robbery aboard a Red Line train headed from the Rhode Island Avenue station to NoMa in July of 2015. The ferocious attack by an 18 year old Spires shocked the community and terrified other passengers on the train. Spires' bizarre behavior during and after the attack, and the hyper-violence he displayed, raised questions about his mental state. Doctors who have examined Spires say he is competent to stand trial and be found criminally responsible for his behavior at the time of the attack.

I believe DC uses the Model Penal Code standard for Insanity ""a person is not responsible for criminal conduct if at the time of such conduct as a result of mental disease or defect he lacks substantial capacity either to appreciate the criminality of his conduct or to conform his conduct to the requirements of the law.""

It's a pretty tough standard.

espousing a plant-based diet, i'm very much anticipating v street's arrival to our little corridor near the big hill. at first perusal, i thought this might be a new establishment arriving at the 'v street corridor', where mason dixie just opened up. which, by the way, seems like a fantastic place for newer eateries as i'm willing to bet that the leases are not nearly as high as they are on 'streetcar street'.

but, yeah. i'm excited for their za'atar corn!

The pop up bar is pretty darn lame. A few decorations on the walls and they renamed their mediocre drinks with movie names. Not worth the time.
