A Fan of Liberty Tree? Go Visit Before the End of October

The ever-popular lobster roll at Liberty Tree

Liberty Tree (1016 H Street NE) announced via its social media accounts yesterday a change in ownership to take place at the end of October. The post characterized the sale as the result of the type of offer "that you just can’t turn down." Liberty Tree will cease operations at the end of October.  The restaurant's Twitter account indicated in a tweet to me that they are "planning to bring lots of the fan favorites over to" Hamilton's Bar & Grill (233 2nd Street NW), a long-time holding of current Liberty Tree owner Scott Hamilton.
It's not entirely clear yet what this will mean for the future of Liberty Tree's current space. When local food blog District Cuisine asked if this meant a new restaurant concept would replace Liberty Tree, the social media account was coy, tweeting "Sorry you'll have to wait and see on that."

Liberty Tree opened in March of 2010, and managed to cultivate many loyal fans over the years. The complete note posted to their Facebook page and Twitter account appear below.

It is with very mixed emotions we announce that we have sold The Liberty Tree. Every second of our time as part of this community has been a joy, but sometimes an offer comes along that you just can’t turn down. The bonds we have formed with our H Street family are truly special and we can't thank you enough for sharing the last 8 years of your lives with us. We are eternally grateful for all the love and support you’ve shown us along the way. Hopefully we’ll get to see you at least one more time before we close this chapter and our doors at the end of October.

*Editor's note: The original version of this post contained a factual error stating that Scott Hamilton owns the Hamilton, a live music venue and restaurant in NW that is in fact owned by Clyde's Restaurant Group. Scott Hamilton is actually the owner of Hamilton's, a restaurant and Packer's fan bar, in NW that I'm told serves excellent fried cheese curds and tater tots. Sorry for the confusion, and apologies all around.

That's a shame -- not only is it super close to my house, it was a great family spot (especially the lovely patio)!

Oh no, that's too bad! I think their other location is actually Hamilton's bar and grill on 2nd St NW. Slightly closer to the neighborhood too.

I think the Liberty Menu states that they are a part of the Clydes restaurant group.
What wil take its place or are they going to raze the block ans put up another apartment building with spacious affordable units?

1:54,

Liberty Tree is part of the Hamilton's Restaurant Group. Ann's comment above is correct.

Super sad to to see Liberty Tree go. It was our go to down the block. Simple good food and a friendly non pompous atmosphere.

Hasn't been the same since Chef Graig Gufling (of the original Matchbox) left a couple of years ago, unfortunately. We really haven't been back since, and we were regulars. Cautiously hopeful about this change.
