Local Briefing: ANC 5D Meeting 11/14, Bar Elena Opens, & Movemberfest Pig Roast III

Don't let the cold weather stop you from getting out and about. Today's round up includes an ANC meeting, a new restaurant, and a pig roast fundraiser.

ANC 5D Public Meeting Nov. 14th

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 5D will hold its regular monthly meeting this coming Tuesday, November 14th at 7pm at the 5D MPD station (1805 Bladensburg Road NE. ANC 5D's coverage area includes Trinidad, Carver-Langston, Ivy City, Gallaudet, and the area around Union Market.



Bar Elena Now Open

Bar Elena (414 H Street NE) opened yesterday in the space formerly home to Boundary Road. Eater DC has more details and some great photos for you to check out of the new restaurant and bar that has pinball machines, and a couple of skee-ball lanes.

Movemberfest Pig Roast III Nov. 18th

It's not too late to score tickets ($60) to Movemberfest Pig Roast III on November 18th at Little Miss Whiskey's (1103 H Street NE). Ryan Gordon of the Queen Vic (1206 H Street NE) will cook up a whole pig and serve it with side dishes. Chase down the all you can eat deliciousness with all you can drink beer from kegs provided by sponsor DC Brau. There will also be an icash raffle with prizes. All proceeds will be donated to the Movember Foundation.

Last year's event completely sold out, and the organizers were able to raise over $3,000 for their cause. Each year the Movember Foundation challenges men across the globe to grow moustaches for the month of November to raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues.  Since 2003 Movember has empowered millions of men and women to join the global men's health movement.  Through the moustaches grown, the connections created and the conversations generated, Movember has raised over $710 million and helped fund over 1,000 breakthrough men's health programs in 21 countries.  This year Movember is concentrating on attacking prostate and testicular cancer, poor mental health, and physical inactivity.
