Local Briefing: Starburst Plaza Ideas, Winterfest, & Events to Aid Veterans & Dogs
Ideas to Redevelop the Starburst Plaza
Local resident, and former ANC 5D Chair, Adam Roberts has a post up on Greater Greater Washington about some intriguing ideas H Street Main Street has put forward for redevelopment of the Starburst Plaza.
Winterfest at Wunder Garten
As of a couple of days ago Wunder Garten (1101 First Street NE) was still accepting vendor applications for its upcoming Winterfest. The application form indicates the organizers "are looking for art and artisan vendors from the Mid-Atlantic region who personally MAKE and/or DESIGN their own handcrafted, handmade goods that are independently distributed and sold."
Winterfest, which will run from December 1st through the 17th, is essentially a holiday market, beer garden, and tree lot, plus a lot more. More details should appear on the website tomorrow, but it promises lots of twinkly lights, DIY workshops, photos with Santa, a pop-up cafe, live music, and a chance to snuggle up around a fire pit with hot toddies or hot chocolate. Winterfest is a collaborative effort of Wunder Garten, NoMa BID, and People Make Place.
Toast Our Troops to Help Dogs & Veterans
Wunder Garten is also hosting a fundraiser Friday called Toast Our Troops that will benefit Semper K9, a group that trains rescued and donated dogs as service animals to assist wounded, critically-ill, and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Toast Our Troops is from 6pm to 10pm tomorrow (Friday, November 10th). The event is sponsored by the Military and National Security Law Student Association at Catholic University's Columbus School of Law.
Pet Adoption Event Saturday at Femme Fatale DC Pop-Up
On Saturday the Femme Fatale DC (100 Florida Avenue NE) pop-up is teaming up with the Humane Rescue Alliance for a pet adoption event from noon to 3pm.
