Union Market (1309 Fifth Street NE) is extending its hours. Starting July 12th Union Market will be stay open two hours later Thursday–Sunday. New hours will be 11am–8pm Tuesday–Wednesday, 11am–10pm Thursday–Friday, and 8am–10pm Saturday–Sunday. Union Market already draws nighttime crowds with their Union Market Drive-In movies (Like Water for Chocolate is showing tonight), but they are trying to ramp that up. For example, you can now find live music and free bingo every Thursday from 7–9pm at Neal Place with DC Fray. This expansion of hours comes just before the return of the popular DC Scoop event on July 13th.
2018 marks the 8th year for the annual DC Scoop ice cream social, and this time it's happening at night. From 5–9pm ice cream fans can try out free scoops from Market partners Dolcezza, Trickling Springs Creamery, Peregrine Espresso, 2017 winner Love ‘n Faith and Ice Cream Jubilee. Other frozen treats will be available for purchase (including gelato, and various novelties) at the event. Puddin’, Bun’d Up, Toli Moli, and Suburbia will be among the participants. The organizers are ditching the ice cream competition this year, but the family-friendly event will still offer plenty to see, do, and taste. Windows Catering will assemble a top notch topping bar where you can deck out your free scoops. DJ Blast + Native Nebula will provide the music.
