Refresh Your Wardrobe Sustainably at Tomorrow's Summer Swap Shop at Wundergarten

Summer Swap Shop

Do you have clothes, shoes, or accessories that you no longer wear taking up valuable real estate in your closet or drawers? Bring them to the Summer Swap & Shop tomorrow (Friday, August 17th) from 2–6pm at Wundergarten (1101 First St. NE).

1. Bring your clothing and accessories to trade at the event (children's clothing is fine)
2. For each item you bring, you will receive one ticket
3. Use your tickets to “purchase” any item at the Summer Swap Shop. Every item costs one ticket.

Items can be in any condition (but should be clean). Clothing that you deem to be too tattered for swapping can be dropped off at DC Sustainable Fashion Collective's textile recycling table.

Stitched With Style will have a repair and alteration table set up. It looks like all of the free repair appointments are booked, but the group will be on hand assisting those who made an appointment with the following types of repairs and alterations to clothing and accessories:
  • Hems and sleeves adjusted on skirts, dresses, jeans, slacks, shirts, blouses, and blazers.
  • Garment Changes/ Updates; Change a long sleeve to short sleeve, change pants to shorts
  • Minor size changes can be achieved through adjusting or adding darts to blouses, dresses, and blazers.
  • Seams can be taken in to improve the fit of the garment.
You can sign up for the event online, but it's not required. The swap is free, and it's also kid/dog/bike friendly. Enjoy music and treats while you shop and learn about some of the partner organizations (like those mentioned above and ReThread DC) that are working to reduce waste and boost sustainability in the District. The event is also organized by Optoro, a District-based tech company that helps retailers manage their excess and returned inventory so the retailers can recover financial value and prevent perfectly good items from end up in a landfill.
