The Permanent Coupon

I was chatting with Paul Roe of British Ink (2nd floor 508 H Street) today and he happened to mention that the soon to open H Street location of Dangerously Delicious Pies (1339 H Street) is planning to offer a permanent discount to anyone who has the Dangerously Delicious logo tattooed on his/her body. It might sound a little odd, but it reminded me that I had recently noticed the Sticky Rice logo (no words, just the logo) tattooed on a woman's arm. Because I didn't recognize her as having an official connection with Sticky Rice (1224 H Street) DC I asked her about the tattoo, and she told me that because of the tattoo the restaurant gives her a discount every time she visits. For those to lazy to click through to the Dangerously Delicious site I'll just tell you it's a pie with cross bones. Not a bad looking tattoo.

  3. You may live to regret the tattoo, though.

I, for one, wish I had never gotten that "Bob's Betamax and 8-track Rentals" tat put on my neck.

  4. Sounds like a smart investment.

100.00 for the ink then a discount on pies. Wonder how many pies you have to eat before you would actually break even with the discount?

With that said, if those Taylor guys would give me a discount I would put their barcode logo on my forehead

  5. The meat pies are 31 bucks so if the discount is 10 percnt it wouldn't take long to recoup.

Of course you would still be shelling out almost 28 bucks for a pie.

    But they have pulled pork.

  6. Ok seriously for a tatoo I should get free pies for life! Who the hell would do this??? Who really wants to explain to grand/children the tat of a pie with crossbones?

  9. Somehow I find this whole concept incredibly depressing. For what it's worth, I am in my early-40s and I like pies.

  11. To Anon 10:36 -- do you do EVERYTHING in your life based on having to explain it to your grand children? How utterly lame!

You mean about the idea that people who have so little respect for themselves that they'll indelibly mark their skin with a brand logo in order to get a minor discount on a pie?

    Hmm. I don't know; I can't put my finger on it. ;)

  16. This is off topic:
Does anyone know what is planned for the JOseph P Cole Center, I know it will be demolished but what will be there in it's place?

  17. I'm thinking the tatoo is actually a handsome one with some meaning...it's quite a bit less tacky than a Chinese character on someone who can not read Chinese. At least you know the love for pie is genuine.

  18. WardT,
The Joseph H. Cole Rec is supposed to be replaced by another Rec. Funding is still somewhat unresolved from what I've heard.

  19. Its a tempting prospect since I'm already a big fan of both Paul at British Ink (I have two of his lovely creations), am a big fan of Rodney of DDP, and have an unexplained attraction to skull n x bone images. We fly a Jolly Roger outside our house. I do, however, draw the line at sporting logos as tatoos. Shame really, might have been a fun addition with a financial benefit.
