Capital City Diner to Serve Up Slushies

Matt and Patrick (who I ran into last night at Home Depot) of Capital City Diner have purchased a Slush Puppie, and are seeking flavor suggestions. Hit them up on Facebook or Twitter with requests. Oh, and the Diner now carries Jarritos.

That being said, I'm all for the mambo sauce slushie! Or the gefilte fish slushie!

  4. I hope they are working to improve their service and output at the same time they are adding to their menu. I really, really wanted to make this a regular place - but a recent mid-week lunch sealed its fate for me. The servers were clueless and overwhelmed even though the place wasn't full, it took a full hour to get our food (half of which was lukewarm by the time it got to the table), and the owner on site seemed to be working at half speed despite the delays. The food that was warm was only decent, and definitely not worth the hassles. Hope they get it together.

  5. Anonymous 11:37a,

I've been twice--the first time was a trainwreck, but the second time was much better. I think they're going to improve as time goes on...it's still a very new operation.

Also, there will invariably be subsequent commenters who will trash you for reporting any less than glowing experience at an H Street establishment, replete with their own anecodtes of how they experienced divine rapture at the restaurant in question. I think we're better served with reviews of all stripes.

  6. Off Topic but worth noting-

Police crews the last two nights have been putting the heat on the dealers in Trinidad. They rolled up in an unmarked cars and frisked one group of youngsters. They had nothing on them. But I saw a couple others that resulted in arrests.

  9. about f*&king time mpd is doing something about that. Whenever I drive through the trinidad neighborhood I'm always amazed at the amount of police cars I see patrolling the area and the amount of young kids hanging out on the street corners.

A friend of mine told me that there was a group of kids selling drugs on one of the corners but they never had anything on them. They would put the stash in the bushes near by. Maybe mpd should search them AND the surrounding area for hidden dope.

  10. Thanks for the mention! We're installing a Slush Puppie machine (proably in the next week or two), and the available flavors are:

    -Cherry
    -Blue Raspberry
    -Licious Lemon Limecicle
    -Kiwi Strawberry
    -Polar Purple Shiver
    -Strawberry
    -Frozen Orange Frenzy
    -Strawberry Banana
    -Cherry Limeade
    -Green Apple Ice Cap
    -Pina Colada
    -Blue Vanilla
    -Tropical Punch
    -Watermelon

Also, we just finished our first month and have been working on the inevitable kinks associated with a new restaurant. We've certainly been embarassed on more than one occasion, but are working hard to resolve issues quickly.

If anyone has any comments, suggestions, etc. please feel free to e-mail diner@capitalcitydiner.com or ask for Matt or Pat in person. One of the best parts about a small, locally-owned business is that the owners are usually on site to address issues.

    Thanks again for the support,

  11. Anonymous@11:37AM: Please e-mail (diner@capitalcitydiner.com), call (202-396-3467), or stop by to give us some more details (date/time, food ordered, description of server/cook) to help us ensure we provide the best service possible on your next visit.

Like I said, we have made (and are making) changes to staffing, etc. based on feedback.

  13. If the diner guys are really making changes to staff, the real problem is the cooks. My fiance and I went there two weeks ago, and it took us over 30 minutes to get out breakfast order. We were sitting at the counter and I could see the cook only had about 5 or so tickets going. A real short order cook could have banged those tickets out in 10 minutes or less. It appears that the hiring was local, and that is often a good thing, but you can't run that kind of place without a kick-ass line cook.
