This topic has made a few recent appearances on the area listservs. Stemming largely from the unsetting discovery of a burning corpse in an alley behind Linden Place earlier this year, the topic has been gaining support from some residents frustrated by persistent problem behavior in the alleys. Surveillance cameras are almost always a controversial topic. A good number of people get pretty uncomfortable with the idea of the electronic eye being too all seeing. Others feel such cameras are necessary both to deter crime & to catch criminals when crimes are committed. Either way, it looks like alley cameras may be here soon. One good thing to remember is that cameras themselves probably are not sufficient to completely deter criminals, they are more of a help in after the fact investigations.
