Become a Tutor or Mentor

From a listserv:

Urban Family Development’s Neighborhood Learning Center (NLC)at 907 Maryland Ave. NE is seeking volunteers for our Mentoring, Tutoring and After School programs.

Become a mentor. Mentors are matched with a student and schedule to meet with the student face to face a minimum of 4 hours per month when and where it works for both student and mentor.

Become a tutor. Our STORM (Students and Tutors One-on-one in Reading and Math) tutoring program works with kids that are performing below grade level in reading and math. Tutors are matched with a student and work with them, in a set curriculum, every Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:15 starting October and ending in May. Training is required for all tutors. Training sessions are held throughout the month of September, October and February. This
position requires a weekly commitment.

Become a tester. Come on Tuesday nights to tutoring and test students as needed to help determine mastery of subject matter. Training provided. Starting and ending dates same as above. This is good for a person that wants to be a part of tutoring but can't make the every week commitment.

Become a homework helper. The NLC helps students with homework Monday thru Thursday from 5-6pm, September-June. Varying levels of commitment accepted.

Send this information to friends and colleagues.
