Capitol Hill Premium Tobacco Opens

IMG_4894
The shop, and I believe also the private club upstairs, is now open and operating. I saw a membership application for the upstairs club, and I want to say that the lowest level of annual membership was around $225. Capitol Hill Premium Cigars and Tobacco is located at 1016 Florida Ave.

Am I the only one who thinks that they are nuts? I can't see that much demand for a high end tobacco club in this neighborhood.

i think the presumption is that capital hill folks will drive over. they probably can't afford to open it south of h.

i think it'll work.

my dad smoked tobacco pipes. i still hate smoke, but tobacco shops have kind of a cool smell.

Sign me up I will become a member this week!

I saw the application because one of my roommates dragged one home and he says he is hoping to join.

I actually do know a number of cigar smokers in the neighborhood who have been waiting for this place to open.

Far out! Time to start trolling estate sales for a vintage smokers jacket and pipe. Nothing enhances one's street credibility like roaming around Florida Ave. looking like Thurston Howell the Third!

Here is their website http://chpcigar.com/ Does anyone know their hours of operation?

Maybe they should have called it Trinidad n' Tobacco.

Trinidad & Tobacco. :-D Nice one.

I thought the whole cigar fad was like 5 years ago? Then again, with the smoking ban in place, maybe there's a niche market for this kind of place?

trinidad and tobacco...now, that's funny!

uh for some of us, it was never a fad. Not sure about DC, but you would be surprised at how well smoking clubs do in other cities. I've been eagerly awaiting to see what this place is all about.

Very funny, rob! Good one...

Ooops, sorry Kenny G. Gave credit to wrong poster. Still, very funny!

Agreed Kenny G. Shelly's Backroom is near my old office and it always seems to do well. I think a tobacco shop might do okay. There are plenty of people that love their cigars.

No offense there, Ro. My dad was a pipe smoker and now smokes cigars...I like the smell of both. I hope the place is a success.

I got a tour of this place by the proprietor (Ron) several weeks back when the construction was in the final stages. A very nice man and the place is absolutely beautiful. He's already on his way to getting a healthy membership roll. Best wishes for much success and welcome to the neighborhood!

Took a tour the other night. They did a great job renovating that place.

Now that the DC Eagle won't let you smoke cigars maybe those folks will end up here on the Hill, at least on occasion.

And, frankly, H Street and environs could use some gaying up. My peoples are seeming few and far between on H these days.

A gay leather cigar bar? Would definitely add a touch of class to the otherwise maudlin gay biker crowd. Nothing better than a fine cohibo, a snifter of port, and some assless chaps.

So, do you need a membership to buy cigars and drink there? Man would that be a cool (and dangersous. I think I'd be there every day!)spot to hang after work if I can.

The store is downstairs. The club is upstairs. To go upstairs you either need to be a member, or be with a member [I think]. It tells you in the FAQ.

enough with the cigar bar -- i want a hookah bar on H st!
