Weekend East City Event Round Up: Eyes of the Art World on DC Edition

(e)merge art fair (September 22 - 25)

The eyes of the art world are on Washington this weekend with the inauguration of the first annual (e)merge art fair. Galleries from all over the world have come to the Capitol Skyline Hotel to represent their respective talent.


Attendees will find a large number of DC galleries represented at the fair including local East City galleries G Fine Art, Honfleur and Conner Contemporary Art.

While there is a nominal entrance fee of $15, faculty and students can preview the work for free Friday September 23 from 12pm to 3pm.

The Fourth Annual Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival (Saturday 11am to 5pm)

If you missed last week’s H Street Festival or wish you could turn back the clock, look no further than the Fourth Annual Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival. With dozens of local artists and artisans selling their work, live music, including an African Dance Troop and fresh, freely flowing beer from local brewery Franklin’s, this festival is not to be missed. Parking is free and a free shuttle will ferry riders between the West Hyattsville Metro (green line) and the festival.

Also, don’t forget to visit East City Art’s tent and enter for your chance to win a framed pen and ink drawing by local artist Ellen Cornett who teaches at CHAW (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop). Details here.

artdc Gallery (Saturday 11am to 5pm)

artdc gallery will show one hundred 12” x 12” pieces by over two dozen local artists during the Hyattsville arts festival. This is an excellent opportunity to buy a small affordable piece for your wall or start your holiday shopping early! The gallery is located at the Lustine Center just a couple of blocks north of the festivities. For more information click here.

Animal Tales and Other Mischief (4pm to 6pm)

Ellen Cornett, a local artist and one of CHAW students’ favorite instructors, has created a new body of work using her renowned pastel technique. The exhibition entitled Animal Tales and Other Mischief visually interprets childhood tales with subtle twists and turns in a vibrant palette that never disappoints.

The reception is being held at Harmony Hall 10701 Livingston RD, Ft. Washington, MD 20744

NOTE: there will be no figure drawing workshop this Saturday at CHAW
