The Deal With Philadelphia Water Ice

So, there have been some rumors going around on Twitter that Philadelphia Water Ice has closed down. Apparently this is not the case. I think it started because Philadelphia Water Ice has the same owner as Spoiled and Rotten Kid's Boutique and Spa. Spoiled and Rotten is relocating to Baltimore.

The second factor is that Philadelphia Water Ice has some sort of partnership with Souk, under which Souk will manage the window and sell Souk food from there. In the spring, they will also sell a few flavors of water ice. It also sounds like you will still be able to get cheesesteaks from the window, as well as Souk food.

Here's the email that popped up a listserv today:

Philly Water Ice HAS NOT closed. we are partnering in with Souk owner which they are managing the place also. However the water ice will have a limited menu in the spring with only a few flavor of water ice, ice cream and still the only place in DC that WILL and STILL has the AUTHENTIC Cheesesteaks.

Now if they could just have nice, competent staff, I might actually go back.

My biggest issue with them is they have the worst hours. On days/times you would think they would be open they are not. I think they are going to have a lot of competition with Steak & Ice opening.

So glad Spoiled Rotten is moving...that place is an eye sore to say the least.

Way to take an unnecessary crack at Taylor Charles. Glad Spoiled and Rotten is leaving, don't really care about Philadelphia Water Ice one way or the other.

That wasn't a crack at Taylor Charles. Taylor Charles isn't even open yet!

Or has it? Maybe I missed something?

Spoiled Rotten seemed like a good idea for little girls who want to "act like Mommy", but it probably would have been more successful providing hair care to little girls, since they are more likely to regularly get their hair done than their nails.

Glad Spoiled and Rotten is leaving too. They contributed nothing to the community.

Never heard of Spoiled Rotten. What the heck - glad they're leaving too.

Spoiled and Rotten is a children's boutique and spa. They do birthday parties, and things like that.

Philly Water Ice cheesesteaks were meh anyway. And the staff's attitude was insufferable to boot. I have much higher hopes for Charles Taylor Steaks 'n Warcrimes 'n Water Ice.

When Philly Water Ice first opened waaay back when, their product was pretty decent..over time the product and the staff both went down hill quickly...and as previous posters stated, they were not open when you thought they would be..strange hours. Authentic cheesesteak??? where was the really grilled onions and the wiz??...As far as Spoiled and Rotten, they did not have regular hours that were suitable for the walk-in crowd..you had to make an appointment which sometimes you do not know in advance of when you could go. I overheard one lady stating that they made her granddaughter who was around 6 look like a "piece of adult trash" and the place was "trifling"
Good bye to them..YEA..

The comments about Spoiled and Rotten are so "obvious" and so "amusing"...lol! I guess if it's not a hipster bar or restaurant...it's not welcome.

I thought the cheesesteaks were good . . . once they were served. I don't think I've ever waited so long for food in my life as I did for 1 cheesesteak at Philly Water Ice. And it was during the day when it wasn't busy.

I too am looking forward to the opening of Charles Taylor Stakes 'n Waterboarding.

Oh, come now. The hyper-sexualization of kindergarteners transcends arbitrary lines of class and race.

In regards to Spoiled and Rotten, I think it is wonderful that they are leaving. Just the aesthetics of the retail facade clash with a more thoughtful retail fabric.
