WCP: What the Hell is Going on at Tru Orleans?

come one, come all

Jessica Sidman of the Washington City Paper has an update on even more weirdness going down at 400 H Street (the former home of the troubled Tru Orleans). You might recalled that Tru Orleans was facing eviction for unpaid rent (they had also failed to pay their taxes) not so long ago. It turns out that they paid up, and are still the leaseholders. Now a group that includes at least one of the former partners is talking about renovating for a new American-Mediterranean restaurant, but it seems that no one bothered to tell the landlord about any of this. Read Sidman's article for the full story. It's beyond bizarre.

"Our new concept is coming into their neighborhood, and we want to insure that the surrounding neighbors are all on board before we make any sort of declarations. "

This is a pretty messy way to start things off. I'm super excited about the restaurant, but Tollar & Co. should've had everything lined up before making any sort of statement to press.

it would be really great if this place was done right. with that location and layout, it definitley has the potential to be a solid, welcoming entrance to H street coming from the west. full disclosure, i never experienced any of the weirdness at Tru Orleans, and went there pretty frequently. aside from molly malones i am not aware of anywhere else that had purple haze on draft

you have to wonder about a place that has yet to be, makes announcements about plans of what it will be, without being in touch with people it claims it will be taking into consideration.

snake oil salesmen did the same kind of thing.

just sayin'....

I hope it's a rocking club, so that I don't have to walk all the way down to XII Lounge to get stabbed.

you know what would do well in that location? a mediterranean style restaurant, run by americans who can't even do louisiana style cuisine very well. so, like a mediocre mediterranean restaurant! it'd be great, cuz people are going to complain about anything that goes in there anyway, so cut to some food that they also eat in in north africa, and you've got an enormous target market, and you'll keep the folks that won't know the difference between good and bad mediterranean food! it's brilliant!

you heard it here first, folks!
