A Martini Bar on H Street?
The ANC 6A Alcoholic Beverage Licensing Committee will be meeting tomorrow from 7-9pm. Among the topics to be discussed...a liquor license for a martini bar. A Mr. Clifton Humphries applied for the license for a business he wishes to open called H Street Martini Lounge. The proposed lounge is to be located at 1236 H Street NE. A google search revealed nothing of interest except that there is a Clifton Humphries who lives hear the H Street Corridor. 1236 is the building with the Long & Foster in the window. Unless I am mistaken, the first floor of that builiding currently has no back wall. The committee will also discuss a possible moratorium on single sales on H Street.

I feel that this area needs a complete make over. I have seen this area and it has not changed for a long time. Anyone who is bringing a refreshing change or anything to beautify and elevate the current environment should be supported 100%
I absolutely support Mr. Humphries in his venture. He's done a nice job with this place. You are looking at a before shot with pretty early news of the martini lounge (at a time when I thing martini and H Street generally did not appear in the same sentence together). For more up to date pictures & some excited sounding comments, check the more recent postings.
I truly congratulate Mr. Humphries and wish him much success. Cliff has done a wonderful job! We liked what we saw and heard on Friday, October 14th, and my husband and I will be frequent visitors!
We stopped by last weekend by chance- it is the coolest place in town... hosting a happy hour there tonight!!!
The staff there are great..and the prices are "just about right" for an upscale martini lounge. They also have 2 Happy Hours and live entertainment. I am surprised I do not see more folks from the community there. We asked for it..now here it is! Shouldn't we patronize it?
Terrible food and over-priced drinks. Love that they're here, but they have a way to go.
This is a great place. I love the live music on friday and saturday nights. I do not like the lilliputian size chicken wings. Come on!! $3.00 for celery and dip, again come on!! Rework the menu and people will buy more food. The chili is the best on the menu and priced appropriately. I will be back but no food!!!!!
i like trying new places, the atmosphere was not as nice as I thought it would be. The upstairs level is not big enough to even dance, let alone see all the members of the band that was playing. The food was completely overpriced and limited.I asked for 2 different dishes and they came back and told me they didn't have either. Then they handed me my bill (which was handwritten)and it only had a total on it.No details at all. Just the total? Wow!!
I have visited a few times since they opened (which I undertstand has been 3 months now). Each time I have been, it gets better. I think they are just working out kinks, they haven't been opened long at all. After speaking with the owner, he says they are constantly trying new things and improving (and I see it). To comment on the food, they are not a restaurant. I would not expect to get a full meal. Keep in mind, these folks provide live bands (great acts too) for FREE. I'm no business owner, but I think every business needs to recoup their costs somehow. What's to complain about free things? And it's not a nightclub where you are expected to dance with a dance floor (however I believe they allow dancing at times on their stage..which yes it's small but the place is meant to be cozy). As quoted from their website "it is an intimate lounge" To comment on the bill, I have received a computerized and itemized bill placed in a check folder.(I think the blogger before me went within their first month opened) I support them 100% for bringing a classy establishment to H Street. They have a dress code and on the evenings I have been, management and some patrons are in suits and very well dressed and mature. Also, I went to the happy hour and enjoy a glass of wine while my husband had a beer. Both were priced at $3.00. That is not bad at all
