Cluck-U-Chicken
The proposed Cluck-U-Chicken opening on the 1100 block of H Street (next to Family Dollar) has put up a coming soon banner. Despite a bit of neighborhood controversy, it appears that we soon have yet another place to pick-up spicy wings.

I thought there was some zoning issue since this place isn't a sit down restaurant. Has this issue been resolved somehow?
I'm not sure what happened/is happening on this issue. I know that a crew has been working on the building for a while, and that a cluck-u-chicken m enu has been posted in the window. This morning was the first time I noticed the banner.
Gotta have a special exception to get a certificate of occupancy for a fast food restaurant in a C2A zone is more like it, Anonymous. Gotta have a place in which to enclose a dumpster for all those chicken bones so they don't end up all over the street and feeding the rats, too, according to the DC Municipal Regs. Gotta follow the regs so that we're all on a level playing field!
Perhaps the suggestion is that Cluck-U should follow the lead of so many existing H St. entreprenuers and place some Mad Dog 20/20 and 45's of malt liquor so that they are the first thing you see when you walk in the door?
Greetings, the attached letter is the response from DCRA. I am following up with DCRA as construction continues and grand opening banners are posted. Recall, that a fast food restaurant is not a matter of right development for C2A zoning. I will pass along the results of my telephone inquires.
P.S. Ms. Nelson, please post this to our web page under my SMD.

Re: Proposed "Cluck-U-Chicken" 1123 H Street, NE
Dear Commissioner Fengler:
This letter responds to your letter to Patrick J. Canavan, Director of the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), regarding concerns raised at your Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner meeting on April 14, 2005, about a proposed eatery at 1123 H Street, NE.
The Zoning Administrator, Toye Bello, has put a property address hold on 1123 H Street, NE, to review certificates of occupancy issuance for the proposed Cluck-U-Chicken.
Please contact me at 442-8945 if you have any questions.
I spoke with Ms. Davis. To date, no one has requested a certificate of occupancy for the Cluck-U-Chicken property. I asked Ms. Davis to send an inspector to the location to discuss with the owner(s) that they may have a problem if they believe they can run a fast food business as a matter of right.
